I'm just not sure where you see 1-dimensionality or ugliness, tbh.

He could fight moving in either direction, and while there was lots of holding in all 3 extant viewable bouts I think overall he didn't initiate a majority of it. Against the bigger man in Husanov he did understandably employ a lot of the hit/clinch/break/reset pattern, but with Mayweather it was 50-50 with them constantly slamming together (and Aragón largely playing counter-puncher, which is rare against Floyd) and Thompson held every time Aragón tagged him flush.

I just see a lack of variety in his punches and no inside game, all of his punches are at the same speed and rhythm which is unusual for a Cuban fighter, plus the clinching as you mention (I see Aragon instigating most of it). Each to their own, I don't see anything exceptional about him based on what I've seen (only a handful of fights). His accomplishments and level of opposition defeated back up your point of view more than mine so I could be missing something... :think

    http://www.ecured.cu/index.php/Lorenzo_Arag%C3%B3n_Armenteros

Llegó a ganar en diez ocasiones el campeonato cubano, en seis divisiones diferentes (de 51, 57, 60, 63.5, 67 y 69 kilogramos), lo que ningún otro boxeador en Cuba ni en el mundo, ha podido lograr.

He won the Cuban championship ten times in six different divisions (51, 57, 60, 63.5, 67 and 69 kilograms) something no other boxer in Cuba or the world has been able to achieve.

Aragón was chosen to participate in the Atlanta Olympic Games. He wasn't completely ready and he even was 10 kgs above his weight, he had to lose them in 2 weeks. He could not participate in the usual high altitude training along with his teammates in Mexico.

It does make you wonder what would have happened if he had fought Mayweather after proper training.

    Yes, proud tradition. :good

I just found it odd that Aragón isn't mentioned very often.
