You obviously have never actually been to rehab, you would actually say "My name is IntentionalButt and I am Aragón-holic" :good

  2. Well someone's actually been to rehab

  3. This really makes me wonder how many of these fights are on tapes somewhere in someone's closet or storage unit without ever being uploaded or seeing the light of day.

    Great thread! :good

I went to Ala-Teen, actually. (abusive drunken step-father)

They would say "I am an alcoholic" if that was the case, but for other substance abuse they would say "I am an ____ addict" or "I am addicted to ___". :good

It's strange - we've got dozens of Cuban regulars on this site and they're always quick to pimp all of the top guys from their national program (even the crappy Barthelemy clan!!) but so far not one has piped in to comment on Aragón or hook up any insight or videos. It has been a week since this very thread's creation, and prior to it there was virtually no mention of Aragón on ESB period.

    :?

Is it just a case of them all being young, and them not remembering Aragón being from before their time...or is it that he isn't as celebrated in the community as his contemporaries?

If so, that is baffling. From what I can tell, if counting on both hands the number of Cuban boxers pound-for-pound greater than El Barbaro in the last few decades there would be leftover fingers.

Todorov beat Mayweather imo, that wasn't anywhere near a robbery. Mayweather was by far the prettier, more stylish boxer but the best punches were landed by Todorov.

    A) Disagree about the best punches.

    B) It doesn't matter. That isn't how amateur boxing is (or rather, was) scored.

Watch it again, and count the clean blows. Loads of Mayweather's went uncounted. He out-landed Todorov by double.

Todorov was definitely world class, just not silver medalist level.

He wasn't on the same wavelength as Mayweather, nor, I'd wager, Aragón.

I watched that fight again the other day, he outlanded Mayweather from what I can see. I don't rate Aragon either, very one dimensional and ugly for a Cuban boxer. I think Mayweather was a lot better than either guy (especially on the inside) but Todorov won on the amateur points scoring system at the time, he landed the heavier eye catching blows from the outside in the centre of the ring. Mayweather landed punches inside that weren't particularly clear a lot of the time and were partially blocked. A lot of amateur contests are disputed but I honestly don't have a problem at all with the Todorov fight, I don't understand how people can compare it to the Roy Jones robbery.

:blood Yeah, he's a regular old Richard Abril, isn't he?

:patsch Beautiful boxer-puncher, and extraordinarily pleasing to watch by amateur standards.

Not as bad as it, but probably the worst since. (still ahead of Spence Jr.)

I respect your boxing opinion but I don't see it, slaps a bit with both his right hand and left hook plus zero inside game, not particularly slick either. He must be alright to beat those names you mentioned but to me he looks like the typical tall, slapping 1,2 sort of guy who was only suited for the amateur scoring system. For Cuban standards he's unimpressive imo.

Fair enough, different strokes. I see him as versatile and powerful but not reliant on his power. :conf

Just wondering, is your opinion based just off the Mayweather performance or have you checked out his other matches ITT?

Yeah I've seen him at 67kgs in a couple of fights as well.
