This date is, while informal, all but certain to be the next contracted date on Showtime for the unified WBA & WBC 147lb champion.

In his interview following his majority decision over Marcos Rene Maidana, he expressed with unusual directness and candor in lieu of his customary vagueness and self-aggrandizement, "If the fans want it, we can do it again!" - repeating this phrase multiple times.

He almost seemed exhilarated by the rush of such a close and competitive battle and excited about having another break from what has become the norm of being in such one-sided contests that he often himself looks discontentedly bored. It cost him a bloody nose and close shave, with a drawn scorecard that is eliciting none of the snickers pointed at CJ Ross in his previous MD over Canelo Alvarez - but he finally got a real physical challenge and he did not seem to mind having gotten exactly the 'dog fight' he wished for. He seemed pleased with the fact that neither he nor the fans walked away bored.

For his part, Maidana exuded bad-ass confidence when prompted for a sound byte on the rematch. "Do I want a rematch? Well, I'm willing to give him a rematch, since I won. 8)" There was no bruised ego or whining, just unflappable coolness. Maidana claimed to have no fear of Mayweather's abilities now, if he indeed had any before, and knows what he would need to do next time - essentially more of the same, having found something close to a 'blueprint' with the guidance of Robert Garcia.

The fans do want it, so we may be in for another Moment come fall.

Great fight this was and I can't wait for the rematch with Maidana wearing the MX Everlasts.

You could have just started a poll titled, "are you a Pacquiao fan?"

Is Maidana going to have his gloves? Or is Mayweather going to make up new rules again above the commission and force Maidana to wear something that puts him at a disadvantage?

Mayweather by decision again. Maidana has the style to beat Mayweather but lacks the stamina to keep it up.

I'd actually prefer to see Mayweather fight Khan. It was an awesome fight, but you know that if anyone's going to adjust, it's going to be Mayweather. There's nothing more Maidana can bring to the table. Unfortunately for Marcos he lost the fight, but it would only get less competitive with a rematch and I'd like to see some new challenges be posed for the P4P king.

So Maidana can beat his ass again and get robbed by the judges again? Nah. Maidana won a clear and unanimous decision.

Of course it matters. At the very least, it's mind game and there are psychological ramifications going into a ring knowing that your biggest asset (power) is reduced by being forced to wear pillow gloves

    I don't wanna see it.

Anyway, Mayweather would dominate en route a UD

Always go with the fighter who was stronger in the late rounds of the first fight, they usually win the rematch.

This would be a good idea if Mayweather weren't at the end of his career, but it is not a good idea for boxing fans NOW.

Mayweather would almost certainly win another decision - probably a little wider, since he knows better what Maidana brings and respects him more.

So what does this prove? Basically that this close win was something of a fluke, due largely to age, overconfidence, and perhaps distractions - which most knowledgable boxing fans already know.

Personally, I think this close win makes a Pacquiao match far more likely - and far more attractive, and financially lucrative. If Mayweather and his team have any sense, this is where they will go.
