    117-111 Mayweather

    Maidana won the 1st, 5th, and 8th.

No way in hell you can score any of rounds 9-12 to Maidana, period. Aside from the 5th, those final four rounds were the most decisive of the fight.

Mayweather got into cruise control then and after round 6. He clearly gave up the 5th as he always does at some point, the round after the cut opened from the headbutt.

And if you really value swinging and missing, then good for you. If you have this fight a draw or to Maidana, then I'd love to see your 118-111 Paul Williams scorecard you must have filled in for Paul Williams over Erislandy Lara.

A lot of those shots really didnt land. That's what I've been trying to tell people. He was throwing but not landing. It all comes down to how you score. If you score for Precision/Accuracy then score Floyd. If you score for Activity/Bullying score Maidana.

I thought it was a clear win for Floyd. A nice rugged fight. But still a good win.

IB, you shouldn't have gotten swayed by these maggot posters on here hating.

Maidana didn't win the 4th, like you gave to him.

He only won 1, 5, and 8. That's it. I'm telling you these scores are shocking bad that people put up.

Floyd won 2, 3, and 4. Why? Because he landed more and/or better shots to carry the round while putting on a defensive exhibition of +/- punch ratios throughout the entire fight.

Don't even begin to get me going on how Maidana only won 1 of the final 7 rounds.

People see what they want with a fight as huge with as big of an infamous and unanimously hated headliner like this.

I'm with you. Effective aggression is the key - most of what Maidana did was not effective - not much landed cleanly. 116-112 Mayweather - can't see it any closer.

Close but clear victory for Mayweather, but he is losing his magic.

I scored the main event for Mayweather, 8-4 rounds, 116-112 points, giving Maidana the 1st, 4th, 5th, and 8th rounds. The 1st round was a Mayweather feeling-out round, as Maidana was the much more active, firing numerous chopping lefts and rights, although Mayweather dodged and blocked most of them. Mayweather won the 2nd with a couple head shots, some good body work, and then boxing from distance; Maidana was less active than in the 1st, but did some good body work halfway through the round. Mayweather won the 3rd with some early jabs to the body, a hard combo to the body, and a couple of hard rights to the head late; Maidana again did some good body work halfway through the round, and landed one nice uppercut. Maidana won the 4th with four good body shots early, and later landing a few chopping lefts and rights; Mayweather landed one good uppercut late, but was mostly inactive during the round, especially after Maidana headbutted him and opened a cut over his right eye. The 5th was the most difficult for me to score; Maidana was by far the more active, firing numerous power shots, but Mayweather was so good slipping and blocking most of them that I wanted to give him the round for his defensive skills, but I gave it to Maidana for being busier, and for one nice right he landed about a minute into the round. Mayweather easily won the 6th by potshotting from distance early, and during the last minute of the round landing a big right uppercut, three hard rights, and a L-R combo; Maidana roughed Mayweather into the ropes at one point, but landed little of note.

Mayweather won the 7th with a couple early rights and a left, some good defensive work against the ropes which ended in a flurry to the body and head of Maidana, and then three late hard rights. Maidana won the 8th with body shots and some chopping overhand rights, one of which forced Mayweather to the ropes late in the round; Mayweather only landed a few scattered shots from distance. In the 9th, Maidana started the busier but Mayweather seemed to block almost all his attempted punches to the head and body; Mayweather himself landed 6-7 hard rights to the head, and one nice body combination. In the 10th, Mayweather early on landed a couple lefts, a right, and a body shot, visibly frustrating Maidana, who roughed Mayweather into the ropes and later put a forearm on his chin; Maidana later landed two good lefts, Mayweather made him badly miss two jabs, and then Mayweather scored two late hard rights. In the 11th, Mayweather landed several hard shots to the head and body early on, and two hard snapping right hands in the last seconds of the round; Maidana was really ragged in this round, and again roughed Mayweather into the ropes, then later speared him down to the canvas. The 12th was fairly close, Mayweather landed several early lefts and rights, Maidana forced Mayweather to the ropes with some chopping shots that Mayweather partially blocked, then Maidana landed a L-R and a left to the body; Mayweather closed the fight with three hard rights during the last minute.

In summary, I thought this was a solid performance by Mayweather. Maidana proved a worthy opponent, with power in both hands, a varied attack, and an awkward lunging style, and his tactics were correct in trying to pressure Mayweather inside and rough him up, although his workrate tailed off in the later rounds. Mayweather showed he still has elite hand and foot speed, he varied his attack to the head and body, he showed good ring movement, and he showed his magnificent defensive skills. Maidana landed some notable shots, but Mayweather was never remotely in trouble. He also showed tremendous conditioning at his age to wear down Maidana in the latter half of the fight. This was an entertaining fight, and a good clear win for Mayweather. With Khan somewhat underwhelming in his fight tonight, and there being no other obvious candidates for Mayweather's September fight, a rematch with Maidana seems reasonable, and might be Mayweather's best bet.
