Is there anyone in this group that can reasonable argue for Oscar beating Floyd in their fight? I've seen a lot of opinions on the Internet saying so, but I never gave De La Hoya more than 4 rounds when I scored the bout. I know it's mostly Floyd's haters spewing this narrative, but maybe there is something I'm not seeing?

Can you point 7 rounds that Oscar won in this fight and explain why he won each of them?

Rounds 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 12 - Oskee was putting the pressure on him, hitting him with body shots and jabs and pretty much doing whatever he wanted. Mayweather was landing good right hands that did buckle Oskee ONCE, but other than that Oskee just stood there and took it and kept popping him with the jabs and pressuring him. I scored it for Floyd but if you were to look for rounds, those would be the ones, IMO

Haven't watched the fight in a while but the championship rounds too? I remember Oscar looked a lil bit gassed towards the end and Floyd figured him out.

I think you could argue for round 1, even tho Floyd outlanded Oscar in that one, but 11 and 12 was clearly Floyd rounds. So even if you give Oscar the first round, Floyd wins the bout. Funny that even the judge who scored the fight for Oscar had Floyd winning the first round.

I can't remember my scorecard but i remember ODLH doing well in the first 6 rounds then Mayweather took over after that. I do remember ODLH having a fairly good round in the 12th round which was one of his best rounds for awhile that he could've won.

I think ODLH has an argument to winning 4 or 5 rounds 6 is a stretch though for me.

In the Trinidad / DLH bout, a judge had Oskee winning the 12th......

He was deffo gassed, Floyd just wasn't really taking advantage of it. I forget who mentioned it in an interview BUT Oskee and Floyd had a rematch clause in the contract, that expired in one year with set purses and everything. Floyd retired for a year and a day or something like that :stirrpot I felt like there was something shady going on because Oskee inexplicably just wasn't being as efficient from round 7 on. Floyd wasn't hurting him with combos or anything.

He was throwing a lot, but not landing much.

Floyd fought Hatton 7 months after he fought Oscar and then retired for 21 months.

I forget the interview, whomever said it must've had their timelines mixed up then.

I agree, the jab was keeping Mayweather at bay and the occasional combo. Oskee does fade late though so it wasn't surprising his lack of work late on.

I cannot see a reasonable argument for De La Hoya having won, but I do remember thinking at the time - & I still do - that it was pretty unconvincing on Mayweather’s behalf. Before the fight I’d have said Mayweather would certainly win if both met in their primes. After that fight, though, I’m considerably less sure. De La Hoya was a part-time fighter by 2007.

By the time that fight came around Oscar had been through so many changes (for the worse) I have to assume that De La Hoya based on the competitiveness of the bout would do a demolition job on Floyd, that was not a bout I’d score for Oscar personally but he did really well and showed how much physical disparity there would’ve been in a prime match up.

Similar here - Oscar to me would probably knock him out at his best, when that fight happened you have to look at the history of trainers he had, at one time he had the man who trained Miguel Canto by the end he was in pieces, Even his fundamentals were wrong by the finish line… when he tried to shoulder roll (taught by Snr?) he did it with his hips so square (which was his way) that it helped Floyd Jnr land a right hand lol. He lost his style but he was still smart if he was still “intact” he’d always win over Jnr IMO.

De La Hoya, IMO, was at his absolute peak at 140.
