... not in a match-up against each other but OVERALL boxing skill, technique, speed, strength, etc. I, personally, haven't seen much video of Robinson but am a big Mayweather fan. We ALL know Sugar, by far, is greater. Just wanted opinions from some who HAVE seen Robinson's work. Thanks.
Robinson wins by KO. Robinson faced more all time great fighters and was far more active as a fighter than Floyd. Floyds great and all but we are talking about the Greatest of all time in Ray.
Mayweather was a better defensive fighter. Robinson had some subtle moves in his defense and was no punching bag, but not a Mayweather/Benitez/Locche. Robinson was a better offensive fighter. Great mix of speed and power, and he is one of the greatest combination punchers ever. The way he doubled up and tripled up on the left hook was amazing. He let his hands go more than Floyd, who is perhaps selective to a fault with his punch output. His KO record would be even higher if he didn't carry so many fighters on orders from wise guys.
This. Robinson would be a unified champion in 8 different weight divisions if he was born in our era. The only man who would have given him a little bit of trouble was a prime RJJ. I mean, you're talking about the guy who was 128-1 in his prime. Come on.
No doubt, but I was talking/writing in terms of skill vs skill... who's was better? I think there are/were A LOT of other fighters that could've beaten Floyd.
Politics make it hard for fighters to unify in so many divisions nowadays. Especially with a hard-balled negotiator like Ray who would be unlikely to let any network or promoter screw him over and control him.
Floyd is probably a better defensive fighter but you can't really tell simply b/c Floyd is more "defensive minded".....meaning he takes little risk leaving less opportunities for him to be countered or to get caught. Ray on the other hand was more of an "offensive minded" fighter. He was still very solid defensively but he threw so many punches and was so busy he was open to more punches than Floyd. In my opinion Ray could be just like Floyd in the sense that both men are supremely talented...super fast, great speed and reflexes and undoubtedly Ray could have out pointed EVERYONE of his opponents had he been more like Floyd and took less risks. he could stay on the outside using his greater speed and reflexes to pot shot and out point his foes without having to fight in the trenches. But Ray wasn't built that way....Ray was a fighter...Win, lose or draw he was gonna got tit for tat and the best man would win. Typically it was ray but EVERY MAN has an off night and every man can lose if they step up t the plate enough times.
Hm, the GOAT versus a guy who's smaller than him and has had far lesser competition. Not much of a choice here
This would be similar to Leonard vs Benitez. Floyd doesn't have the power to make SRR flinch while SRR has the size, skill, speed, and power to outbox Floyd and have him in survival mode for most of the fight. SRR by wide UD.
