Hard jabs by Lopez, backing the kid up. Vargas throws a 1-2 to the body, too long. Lopez lands a hook under a Vargas jab. Hook to the body and jab to the lip by Vargas. Lopez walks into a low-to-high jabbing combo. Vargas is throwing hard and hitting glove. Lopez walks into an overhand right while pushing Vargas back to the ropes. They jab together and Vargas lands high, Lopez low. Vargas lands a combo to the face. Big overhand right by Vargas as he leaps off to his right. Lopez just keeps stalking forward, almost bunny-hopping in toward Vargas as he gets near. Slapping combo by Vargas circling away from the ropes. Lunging uppercut to the body by Lopez falls short. Clinch. Break. Vargas throws a wrenching combo of alternating lefts and rights but only grazes Lopez. They come together and exchange rabbit punches in the clinch.

Round 2

Vargas is jabbing and moving well. Lopez isn't getting close to him. Vargas flurries to the head while coming forward off the ropes to greet Lopez. Clinch. Weeks is having to break them up frequently. Lopez is pressuring without many punches being thrown and almost none landed. Vargas is jabbing and flurrying while circling wide to his left. Body shot by Lopez. Overhand right by Lopez. Now Vargas answers back with a body shot backing up. Low blow by Vargas and they tie up, falling together into the ropes. Vargas ducks and lands a sweeping right to the body. Big exchange at the bell, fists clapping atop both of their heads.


20-18 Vargas

 

Round 3

-Vargas is now landing good lead overhand rights and putting left hooks behind them, constantly moving in circles to his left. Lopez is lunging with uppercuts and hooks to the body but getting jabbed in the forehead and held at bay. Now Vargas is walked into the corner and bombarded with body shots. Lopez steps back out of the way of some Vargas jabs, laying off the pressure for a moment. Vargas is backed up and rushes in to clinch. Lopez tags Vargas several times with wide cuts of his arms. BIG left hook for Lopez! It's a war, with Vargas' back to the ropes! Lopez is landing better. There's a lot of grabbing and roughhousing, but Lopez is landing the cleaner shots. Weeks breaks them up and Vargas starts jabbing well again. Hard left hooks to the body - now a right hand up top and a left hook to the face by Lopez! Vargas getting belted!

Round 4

Vargas jabs and slides back. Lopez hammers his way in with jabs to the body. Now a right hand up top! Vargas is getting clubbed against the ropes! Vargas wags his knuckles inward, inviting Lopez in and telling him to "bring it"!!! Lopez does! Vargas meets him halfway, plunging down some high-soaring overhand rights. Lopez just keeps coming like a terminator, and plants his jab on Vargas while ducking the prospect's jab. Vargas uses his feet to traverse the entire ring, keeping away and popping some high straight flurries with his feet moving. Lopez lands a right and Vargas tries to hold but takes another one across the head. Vargas swings wildly and maneuvers himself right into a jab that turns his chin down. Lopez keeps pressing in and nearly traps him on the corner. Now he shoulders him into the ropes but Vargas walks him out to the Tecate logo before Weeks breaks them up. Big 1-2 by Vargas is blocked but he lands a follow up hook to the body.
