    Round 5

Hard shots being exchanged! Vargas is throwing plenty while backing up but Lopez is landing the telling blows with his hard right hand over the top. Nice flurry of uppercuts by Vargas as he turns Lopez quickly with some rapid leg over leg lattice work. Lopez hammers Vargas against the ropes with an overhand right and spins him into the adjacent ropes. Vargas is desperately blasting away with wild shots upstairs, and lands a left hook to the body. Lopez walks into a 1-2. Vargas keeps sailing away and leaving jabs in Lopez's path. Vargas ducks and gets hooked across the back. Hook to the body by Lopez and Vargas flurries back to the body.

    Close.

    Round 6

Lopez is banging away with under-cutting body shots. Vargas is backed to the ropes and around the ring, trading body shots with the taller man but not landing with as much authority. Both stray a little low and Weeks warns them sternly. Lopez has a few jabs slipped and takes a light counter flurry to the face as Vargas skims along the ropes. Vargas hops around Lopez, who hops in turns to keep up with him. Constant pressure by Lopez, who misses some lunging shots as Vargas keeps moving. Hard hooking shots to the kidney by Lopez as Vargas turns into him. Nice hook to the pecs by Vargas as they nearly come together but push off. NICE left hook by Vargas, flush on the chin as Lopez was going to the body. Lopez low blow, unseen by Weeks. Long clinch against the ropes. Vargas lands a combo.

    10-9 Vargas

    57-57

Lederman scored 1, 2, and 5 to Vargas, and 3, 4, and 6 to Lopez. His scorecard matches mine exactly.

    Round 7

Vargas leaves a breadcrumb trail of jabs while pounding pavement. Vargas is pushing his arms out to catch some high hooks of Lopez and thrust him away. Lopez keeps pressuring but isn't getting past the flurries of Vargas. Now Lopez corners him and takes a long volley to the head. Lopez is cut. Scraping left hook to the forehead by Vargas while stepping around to Lopez's left. Vargas keeps moving and flurrying, giving the pressure fighter a lesson in mobile outside boxing. Lopez keeps winding up on infrequent overhand rights, putting a lot into them but not landing enough.

    10-9 Vargas

    67-66 Vargas
