There is something very obviously phony about him, yes. His trainer, too.

Weasel-eyed Danny's brother Roberto Garcia - who I consider more or less a straight shooter despite his relationship with probable past cheater Margarito - has also publicly debunked about 90% of Ortiz's sob story.

As for being a dirty fighter - ask Alarcon or Cordova.

Have you seen either of those fights? They were on TV (Solo Boxeo and ShoBox respectively) but were years back and early in Ortiz's career. They are his first loss and first "draw" - and both were deserved, and came about because he's a dirty punk. They're both available online (not Youtube, you have to dig a bit...)

vs. Alarcon: Ortiz was clearly the stronger guy and probably en route to a knockout win. He decked Alarcon a ways into the first with a combo, dumping the journeyman between the bottom and middle rope. Alarcon got up and flopped into him, spoiling and looking like he was going to survive the round, with Ortiz twisting his arm up over his head in the clinch. The referee squeezed in between them and tried to push them apart, and Ortiz threw a hard left uppercut past the referee, with the official's hands still on both of them trying to separate them for a clean break - and knocked Alarcon out cold. EVEN WORSE THAN MAYWEATHER'S SUPPOSED ETHICAL INFRACTION HERE AGAINST ORTIZ HIMSELF! WAY WORSE! Cortez had called time in and it was Ortiz's responsibility to have some situational awareness and defend himself. Alarcon was trusting in the official's instructions and was thereby defenseless against the unnecessary cheap shot Ortiz threw against someone he would have defeated anyway! Despicable act by the young Ortiz. Inexcusable. WORSE, he hid behind some phony spin and probably had his team scour the internet to have all evidential visual record of it pulled from mainstream sites like YT (which is probably why you have to really dig for it...)

Here were his comments about the incident.

“I thought the decision was total bull. The referee said, 'Box out.’ He did not say break. I think it was a cop out what Alarcon did. People saw that I was not hurt and I did not lose this fight. The ref never called a break. He was tongue-tied. He just tapped me on my arm. Alarcon was already weak and did not want to fight.”

vs. Cordova: He was again in control (although it was pretty competitive) against the then-unbeaten fellow southpaw, and looked to be headed to a cruise-along victory. Toward the end of the round, Ortiz threw a wild punch and wound up pushing Cordova down to the canvas with a stiff arm as it swept up. It was correctly ruled a slip but the move backfird on Ortiz and caused a head clash, opening the cut on Ortiz's eye which eventually caused the stoppage after the bell and the ruling of a technical draw. (which was really just an alternate way of calling it a No Contest, as obviously it wasn't scored a one round draw by actual judges). The thing is, between the slip/butt/cut and the final bell there was another exchange. Ortiz RAMMED his head into Cordova's *****, while simultaneously tossing a hard right upper-hook up into his lower groin. Basically he felt the blood streaking down his face and panicked and showed his true colors by pulling some dirty **** that went unnoticed. He could have easily had a second DQ loss there and was lucky to escape with a TD (really a NC for all intents and purposes).

If you read clearly biased **** like his Wikipedia page or any promotional materials they moan about both of those like they're great big injustices. Like Alarcon was "acting" when Ortiz iced him with an illegal uppercut to the bottom of the chin. They say stuff like he was "thrashing" Cordova (far from the case, it was a basic 10-9 round for Ortiz - nothing too spectacular about it and not entirely uncompetitive) and "fell victim" to a headbutt, even though he initiated it trying to score a knockdown off what was basically a shove.

The attempted cranial bonk on Mayweather is far from Ortiz's first brush with filthy tactics borne out of frustration.

Oscar did better work with Floyd on the ropes. Cleaner left hooks to the body, whereas Victor was just flailing up and headhunting with straight combos that mostly touched naught but glove.

The war of words between Merchant and Mayweather was entertaining - and way more competitive than the boxing match between Ortiz and Mayweather!

A rematch would be more of the same, IMO - unless it happens far enough down the road that Mayweather's remaining skills have diminished and even his newly adapted flat-footed fighting style ceases to be effective for him as his upper body reflexes and speed with that laser right hand start to get eroded by the wear and tear of age. (and years of probably pushing himself physically beyond the brink of what humans are designed for, with the constant gym rat work ethic and always being in fighting shape...it's hard to imagine that muscles can go basically someone's entire adult life without ever getting any rest and hold up well when their body starts to naturally break down...)

If it's any time soon - say, in 2012 - Mayweather just shuts Ortiz out from the words Ready To Rumble again and racks up rounds until another, less controversial stoppage.

    ^^ It's all there. :yep

He's left a sour taste in my mouth ever since "I don't really deserve to be getting beat up like this", and the more of him we get to know the less well it sits with me.

I wish anyone fairly interested in Ortiz would read this man.

I mean, I knew Ortiz very well, but didn't know about everything you just said there. Can be very eye opening for those that think they know Ortiz better than they think

    Great post man :good

It should be illegal that some rookie that doesnt know his boxing is posting on this sight. And furthermore, you have proven you're rookie status by not knowing who I am. I am far from a 'Floydiot'. I even called it a ***** move. The ONLY reason I rout for Mayweather is to hopefully see him face Pac one day.

Mayweather has turned into a complete *******. HOWEVER, that does not take away from his absolute incredibleness in the ring. Look at his record. Look at who he has beaten, when he has beaten them and how he has beaten them. In my book he truly is one of the best ever. Unfortunately unless he faces Pacman soon, all his accomplishments will never mean much. He wants to be remembered as the best, and possibly the best ever, he needs to make the fight with Pac happen.

Ortiz is a ***** and got treated like a *****. That's all there is to it. First he commits the most blatant headbutt attempt I've ever seen, out of pure frustration from getting his ass handed to him (girly ass ***** move), then he is overly apologetic and even KISSES ANOTHER MAN for no ****ing reason as if that would somehow take back the dirty bull**** he just pulled. But guess what ***gots? He did do it, and once the dirty deed is done, there was no taking it back and moments later (after Ortiz had another ****** moment and kissed and hugged Floyd repeatedly) he got his INSTANT KARMA and got knocked the **** out, clean, legal KO.

There is simply nothing to argue about. The instant replay was very misleading because it did not show the part where referee Cortez clearly signaled with his hands to begin fighting again and also audibly said "Let's go" also known as "box" for you slow mother****ers out there. ONLY AFTER Cortez did this did Floyd engage with Victor and knock him the **** out while Ortiz was off in lala land like a ****in idiot while HE WAS IN A BOXING MATCH. You don't take your eyes off your opponent when you're supposed to be fighting him, and you protect yourself at all times. If you don't do this, you can expect no pity when you get knocked the **** out, especially when moments earlier you struck your opponent with an unprovoked jumping ****ing headbutt. This isn't a friendly sparring session, this is a fight and touching gloves and hugging has no place in a ****in boxing match. If you wanna do that **** find another sport like gay porno where you can kiss and hug all the guys you want after you jumping headbutt them in the dick.

What is there to argue about here seriously? Please tell me. You're bitching because your boy doesn't have the presence of mind to PROTECT HIMSELF AT ALL TIMES like he was told to do ever since he began boxing at a very young age and at the beginning of this very fight. They say that **** for a reason, and it ****in goes without saying. He was in a fight, the ref said "let's go" and signaled to fight and then Floyd hit him and knocked him out. What don't you guys understand? And that headbutt wasn't the first time Ortiz used his head in dirty manner in this fight... he was doing it all night, but finally decided to go for the jumping headbutt when his glass heart shattered again.

By the way IB, I don't always agree with you on everything, but outstanding job with the RBR as usual, and you were spot on in everything you said about this fight and about Ortiz. I had a lot of the same feelings about this kid going into the fight and could see right through his fake persona the more I saw from him and you're right he got what he deserved and it was really funny to see all that hype blow up in his face.

Awesome fight. A masterclass performance from Floyd as expected and a great, surprising and memorable KO for the ages. Great night of boxing.

These posts say everything that needs to be said about the fight. What we saw in this fight was justice. Ortiz got cheap and got knocked the **** out.

I remember my 1st thought when it happened was "That's what you get Ortiz for being a *****".. and I remember thinking Ortiz would get up from that.. and then he didn't.

I wish he would have gotten up. He should have been able too.

Anyhow, completely legit KO. Time was called in, and Ortiz waited too long to get his guard up.. his fault.. and it wouldn't have happened just like that if Ortiz didn't blatantly headbutt Floyd. Ortiz has always been a dirty ass fighter, he puts on that smiling good boy **** and people seem to forget what happens in the ring.. he also blatantly was aiming for the back of Floyd's head in clinches.

Pretty good card top to bottom as well, good night of boxing, memorable ending.

I hope these are not your real sentiments. It was a bad night for boxing if you count the outrage that the general public has about the cheap KO. It was memorable in the same way that the 'ear-biting' was. Its infamous, not really something great and not good for the sport.

Not a good night for boxing or for May's reputation.

I had said all day yesterday I HOPED Max would be on and Larry would be able to pass, but no.

My wife had to finally agree with me (after makin' fun of me for thinkin' I was imagining Larry's hatred for PBF) when Larry couldn't help but make some kind of hate remarks because Floyd walked into the building with his kids....

He was set and primed the whole show to hate on Floyd.
