Jeez some of the arguments in this thread are ridiculous.

Some are so poorly constructed, I can agree with the point there making and the point there arguing against with it.

Can't see anyone winning this 'clearly'.

Personally, I would go with Benitez, in a tense bout that is more interesting to hypothesize about than watch.

Mayweather is no ATG at that weight. There are literally dozens of fighters over the years that would have given Mayweather hell at that weight. And, Benitez is one of them.

12-0 at 147. Every fight was against a current or former titlist. Other than his first fight at 147 and the Marquez comeback fight, all were title fights.

Yes 12-0 at 147 in the talent free modern era. Back in Benitez' time Miguel Cotto would be a 4 round fighters girlfriend!

Of course back then boxing was about MEN! MEN who came to FIGHT!! None of this pansy ass, tap and run nonsense we have masquerading as pugilism these days.

And when a great back then got a draw with a guy who was 21-6-4, it could only mean that they both were great. Nothing like Fraud’s cherry picking.

Talking to yourself is a very concerning thing to do.

No it isn't. Weston was a very good fighter, that happened to come along when some of the
most talented welters in history were around. So a casual fan may not know how
good he was. I'd bet this,
his skills were better than Castillo or Baldimir and both gave Mayweather jr. hell
(If were cherry picking difficult fights each fighter had) with some believing Castillo
actually beat Mayweather Jr. The 1st fight.

They're 0-3 against Mayweather and won on 0 of 9 scorecards. And no Weston was not better than Castillo.

I totally understand the argument that Mayweather could be highly ranked in a historical sense. But, that doesn't mean that he would beat everyone but the men ranked ahead of him. Mayweather's lofty ranking is in large part due to his undefeated record. A record based on fighting only twice a year, at specified times. And, he dictated all the terms. In almost any previous era, he would not only have had to fight better opponents, but, at a much more frequent pace. Had he done so, I have little doubt his career would have played out much differently.

and I doubt I or any argument will change your mind, I just wanted to give perspective on the claim that he is not ATG at this weight. I don’t have a dog in this fight as I am an appreciator of Floyd but not a fan or detractor either.

Well what a chess match this would be!
Floyd was more consistent but at his best Benitez was simply a genius. This is very hard I can’t really call it, probably just Benitez.
