Perhaps the most controversial fighter in all of Boxing, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is calling for his fellow countrymen to support him and side with him against Boxing's pound-for-pound fighter Manny Pacquiao. On Monday, Fight Sports Examiner confirmed with an ESPN representative the following comments made by Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a weekend interview with

    :

“The thing is this I’m an American citizen and I represent this country with the red, white, and blue. The only thing I want is the people in my country to stand behind me. I’m in my own country and I have a lot of people against me. Our country is a great country, it’s a clean country, and all I ask him to do is take the test, that’s it. He takes the test and we got a fight.”

Once again, Floyd is trying to simplify the matter at hand. It's not a matter of taking the test but a matter of cut-off dates for taking the test. It's also a matter of professionally handling a drug testing issue and not falsely accusing someone of taking PEDs and publicly berating that individual with false accusations. And yes, the Mayweathers are guilty of defamation. A Nevada district judge just ruled last week that Pacquiao's defamation suit met the burden of proof and that the Mayweathers did indeed publicly try to defame Manny.

It's hard for a country to get behind an athlete who gets in more trouble with the law than he does getting in the ring to fight. Mayweather Jr. is currently involved with 2 other court cases in addition to Pacquiao's defamation suit. Floyd Jr. was sued over his harassing attack on a security guard and he's facing up to 34 years in prison for multiple felonies when he allegedly assaulted his ex girlfriend. If Mayweather Jr. feels that his own country is against him, I would suggest he examines his criminal activities to understand why.

Perhaps if Floyd Jr. shows more commitment to fighting in the ring instead of bragging about his gambling career, more American citizens would get behind him. In today's harsh economic times, many Americans don't want to hear about someone gambling $100,000 on basketball games.

Our athletes cheat beyond reason. Marion Jones, Holyfield, blah blah blah. I read something in ESPN magazine that speculated about the number of NFL players using HGH..Big surprise right? I dont really give a **** about PEDS any of that anymore. You know what America needs? A real fighter. I'm tired of all the Dirrells and Alexanders. Until void starts acting the part I'm gonna stick with pac. This guy's been unbearable for a couple years now.

If he stopped being such a douche maybe he would get support. The biggest mistake he did was to diss the fans and the media.

I find this particularly ammusing. He keeps updating his twitter status with pics of his winning betting slips. He puts 50,000 dollars at a time to win back 30,000. Imagine how much he must of lost so far...

He's an uneducated idiot with no grasp on reality and a massive ego, how anyone can like him beyond having admiration for his boxing skills is beyond me.....

Author forgot to mention Floyd contradicting himself straight after that statement, saying he fights only for himself and not for the fans he supposedly wants to support him, and that they don't pay his bills and put his kids through college. Guess he took pity on him. Guy's had enough embarrassment in the past week.

He's barking up all that noise only because Pac has a fight lined up, as usual/

If he -doesn't go- silent after Pac eviscerates Mosley, then we might have a fight come fall.
