Floyd Mayweather Jr. wins 2012 "Best Fighter" ESPY

Just saw the whole list on ESPN website.......I have no idea who are those people (except the fighters obviously).

If they are talking about the Sports taking the World into account......the whole list is ridiculous. I mean, really, americans realize that most of the people in the rest of the world simply have no idea who are these people, especially NFL or Baseball ?

If it´s only about sports relevant in USA (seems like this is the case of these awards), then fair enough.

 

Maybe. Will have to rewatch. I love Cotto, So was jumping out my chair in that round.

I remember thinking at the time he could stop mayweather if he had 2 more of those. But unfortunately he couldn't replicate that round.

 

post me a round floyd won in as dominating fashion as Cotto won that round. (8 or 9) I can;t remember.


Actually I'll save you some time. There isn't one.

Floyd won alot of clear rounds, But nothing as dominant as Cotto's one round.

 

Cotto put on a great performance no doubt but he still got more damage on him than vice versa. Cotto's who face was swollen while FLoyd got that busted nose. I think Floyd could have done better if he doesn't fight once every 1.5 years and had a short 4 rounder with Ortiz.

12th round was the most dominant of the fight and Floyd won it staggering Miguel twice. I re-watched the fight last week and was surprised by how dominant Floyd was at that viewing. It actually looked more like a typical Mayweather domination with the exception of Miguel's pushing.

Cotto had a great game plan because his wrestling was limiting Floyd's output and keeping him inside where he could do the most damage, but Floyd outworked him. Miguel landed a few jabs but Floyd slipped most of the punches. In terms of crisp strong clean effective punches Miguel landed less than 15 for the entire fight including the DOMINANT 8th round where he landed a grand total of 4 clean shots. Watch again -- the 8th wasn't really all that one sided. Floyd got some clean work in and even staggers Miguel at the end with a left uppercut.

 

I'm calling it like I see it. Cotto won the 8th -- his most dominant round. In that round the clean effective work was:

Left Jab at 2:37

More of the rest of the work that round was done by Cotto, but was not clean/effective. Floyd was never hurt and actually landed more of the clean-effective punches.

The 12th was more dominant than the 8th. Cotto landed nothing clean in that round and was staggered by a series of left uppercut, right hood combos. Floyd landed a dozen clean effective punches that round and hurt Cotto. the 12th was a more dominant round.

Compared to a typical Mayweather fight, Cotto looked better than other opponents because Floyd wasn't dominating in ring generalship like he usually does. The 8th round was Mayweather's worst since the 2nd round of the Mosely fight, but the video shows what the video shows.

 

Plus having the cut off in summer makes a lot more sense than Jan-Dec. The NBA, NHL, and, most importantly, the NFL all run their seasons in that time span. Cutting it off with the calendar year would make it pretty messy.

 

thought Jon Jones from the ufc should have won it, dominated 4 top contedners and 2 hall of famers last year.
