Great boxer... Magnificent actually.. Possible for him to have ranked higher.. Absolutely... Do I rate people higher than him... Yes

Just cos he says he's the best ever doesn't mean he is... Same goes for Ali

Floyd had Pac, Cotto, Mosley, PWill and Marg but either avoided them in their prime or altogether. Leonard fought his top opponents all in their prime; he ducked no one.

There's no excuse for Floyd to have fought a blown up JMM or Hatton at 147 when the other real top welterweights I listed were available.

Think outside of the marketing floyds kidding himself on. Its amazing how calling yourself the best ever actually makes people believe you are.

Think two things hold mayweather back...handpicking opponents at the right time and he was basically a spoiler. Nothing wrong with that...but when we start looking back over careers its hard to have him above guys like duran and leonard. Its always easier to spoil another guys work than it is to go on the offence. Its like football....a great offensive team will always be ranked higher than a great defensive team. A team that wins by entertaining you will always be ranked higher. As good as floyd was he was almost anti entertainment in the ring. He basically nullified the opponent then nicked rounds by potshotting...that can never be considered as the best ever regardless of the skill involved imo.

Great fighter floyd...probably the best of his generation. But even then pacman will be remembered better. He lost but he gave us plenty of real entertainment. Floyd should be happy with where hes placed tbh. Fighting the way he did kept him undefeated but it comes at a price.

Sugar Ray Leonard style was more interesting to watch than Mayweather's style.

    Ha!

    Behave.

    Corrales was nothing like Hearns.

Floyd would never have fought Hearns.

How can it be ludicrous to have Ray in the top 5, just because he lost to Duran?

Duran was one of the greatest fighters who ever lived.

It was also a close and competitive fight.

Ray also beat Duran in the return, making him quit, and also holds wins over Benitez and Hearns.

He absolutely deserves a place in the top 5. Both on H2H ability and on the strength of his resume.

    Floyd needs to be quiet.

He had his chance to be rated higher, but blew it by retiring and avoiding Manny when he was in his prime.

True. But he was past his best himself and had been inactive for 3 years.

STL Did admit he fought Hagler after he saw "something" he could take advantage of. He never said what that was.

Leonard is just less than 2 years younger than Hagler but both were at the wrong end of their careers.
Hagler was the reigning undisputed Middleweight Champion of the World and still active while Leonard had been retired for 3 years
It’s difficult to argue that Hagler was the one who was compromised at the time of the fight.

As for those pointing at Leonard’s loss to Duran, you have to know the circumstances.
Leonard was labelled a “pittipat” fighter who wouldn’t engage, he was called a runner with no heart for the fight.
In response Leonard fought the most feared man in World boxing and purposely stood toe to toe with him and lost a split decision. SRL knew he was risking his 0 by adopting those tactics but did it just the same, he showed what he was capable of against a fighter who petrified most of his opponents.

In the return Leonard put the record straight with a dazzling show of offensive and defensive speed skill and genius that FMj can only dream of.

FMJ has been putting in similar displays for over 2 decades, so I don't know what you are talking about.

    No he hasn’t!

FMj doesn’t have a quarter of the offensive skill that SRL had and ducking below the waist band height while pushing your elbow into the face of your opponent is not a show of defensive skills.

FMj was good but not even close to the class of Leonard, attack or defence.

    He's superior defensively.
