How would you rate Floyd Mayweather Sr and his ability when he was fighting at his peak?

He was a very good fighter. But their were quite a few very good fighters during his era at the welterweight limit. And a few best in welterweight history fighters their also . If Mayweather Jr. Fought in that era at welter. He would be his dad . They fought very similar at welter.

He had just one flaw that he couldnt Punch. that and his drug addiction.

too bad he fought at a time when there were only Killers at welter. im Pretty sure he could have beaten a crisanto espana or Maurice blocker.

The difference between a fighter such as Duran and Floyd Jnr is day and night.

Yes. Duran was a real fighter. From the streets. Floyd is a perfectly managed fighter. Low risk taker

I wouldn’t call Floyd a low risk taker his resume speaks for itself he obviously put it on the line plenty of times. Also Mayweather came from the streets it doesn’t mean anything. Jiro Wantabe was an upperclass kid for starters.

I’m a Mayweather fan myself- I did mean that Duran would fight anyone and Mayweather fought who he could make the most money off with the least amount of risk yes but I wouldn’t insinuate he was cowardly.

Floyd did not came from the streets. Duran was a street kid. He had nothing - it is either boxing or you end up dead. You saw that hunger in the ring. Floyd never took risks everything is calculated. He is the best managed fighter ever.

I never saw any other great fighter who took so few risks as Floyd. He has his health and money. But in terms of greatness, it comes wih a price

He was the best of a generation. While Duran may have been a rough street urchin Floyd didn't grow up exactly pampered. If memory serves his farther was an addict and he ended up the sole provider of the family when his dad went to prison?
