Floyd Mayweather - The sweet science.

Mayweathers resume is excellent but when you break it down he avoided going in with people at their primes evrer since Castillo.

That is the main reason i cant put him in my top 10 ATG.

 

Please explain how Mayweather is more meticulous. He hasn't proven he's on Leonard's level because Leonard proved it against the very best ever.

Leonard can box better than him, proved it in the amateurs and against the best (in amateurs and pros) and can brawl. His brawling abilities are legitimately great and he falls just short of the best ever levels i.e Duran - but what makes Leonard such a master in pointscoring/winning in boxing is that he fuses both boxing and brawling in a very scientific way. He goes out of his way to make his game centered around marrying the two.

Floyd on the other hand, just shuts down when hit with pressure and relies heavily on pot shotting.

Leonard is arguably the very best ever (definitely the most complete fighter in boxing history, too).

 

I agree with this. The thing that makes defence so great is if someone can do it all within punching range, unfortunately Mayweather hasn't been able to prove this.

 

To really be considered among the true greats of hit and not get hit, Floyd really needed to do the hit bit alot more.

coming from a pac fan I would still say Floyd is the best of our time by far, I actually think he got better as he went up in weight as he had to get sharper and take less risks in the ring when facing stronger guys knowing he couldn't hurt them as much. I thoroughly appreciate how he operated in the ring as there hasn't been a fighter imo with the same sharpness and strategic iq that copes and adapts so well under pressure! the excitement surrounding a pac fight was way more nail biting but Floyd puts on a way better spectacle when he gets through the ropes, just a dominant force that didn't know how to lose! a lot of ppl can say that RJJ was one of a kind but his natural athleticism and talent was a lot to do with this, he took a lot of shots throughout his career as even his ring iq wasn't as good

 

Thats funny. Mayweather seems to be in range to out point and outland all his opponents. Its the opponents job to get in range to land punches. Mayweather controls range and distance very well so most of his opponents are unable to do that. With that said people act like he never stands in the pocket. He stood in the pocket the majority of the Canelo fight and Canelo was still unable to land. Mayweather is able fight at range and in the pocket. That is what makes him one of the most complete fighters of all time.

 

I reckon any of the Fab 4 would have done a number on FMJ.

 

No drugs here. You need to get your head checked if you think Mayweather was more skilled than James Toney. NO ONE in the last 30 years was more skilled than James Toney.

 

James Toney wasn't as skilled there I said it. He was far too stationary and could be exploited by anyone who used good movement. PBF was far more complete and skilled he could fight at all ranges, Toney couldn't.:deal

 

Toney was outpointed easily by a prime Roy Jones.

A prime Roy Jones is maybe 3, 4 or 5 times better than anyone Floyd Mayweather has fought.

A past prime Pacquiao? A bloated Marquez? Corrales, Castillo? We're talking about Roy Jones here at 168 vs the guys Mayweather fought.

 

Yeah he fought him but he lost and looked bad doing so. You don't get points for that. The fact is he could be exploited by certain styles. If pbf and toney were the same size pbf would tool his ass just like Jones did. Pbf is a master of distance toney isn't that would be the story of the day if they ever fought. The blueprint is already out for toney there's no blueprint for pbf remember that.

I'd have loved to see Mayweather fight someone like a 168 pound version of Jones Jr.

 

PBF fought and pretty much tooled an athletic marvel in Pac. Before the fight all you heard was Pac was going to overwhelm PBF with speed and angles but that didn't happen, it would have never happened why??? because PBF is a master of distance.

 

Did you not know that Pac had 1 ****ing arm? Floyd deserves no credit, let him rematch Pac with 2 arms. Not to mention Fluid was juiced to the gills.
