What I don't understand is how the hype has grown since the Ponce fight?!
He got shown up by a solid operator.

I can't stand Broner, he will be beaten by the time he stops shitting out and moves to 140.

Kell Brook would spark him out easy, Broner is a good fighter........

But the hype about him is pathetc, just because he is black yank and is a Floyd Mayweather wannabe you get mongs..? Thinking he is the next big thing.

    Mong is a bit harsh.

I've only seen him a couple of times & he looks like a good prospect.

    Chill the **** out

Yes he looks like a good prospect, but thats about it at the moment. He's been matched up with people who are not even talented at all, not even average fighters.

People are hyping him up, because he is a black yank and a part of the swagger generation. He's a Floyd Mayweather wannabe, is not orginal at all.

To be honest, I didn't know there was allot of hype about him.... Like I said, I've seen him a couple of times, watched some stuff on YouTube & he's defiantly a name I'm going to follow.

Is he overrated? I'm sure we'll find out.

We already did find out! He got a gift of a decision against Ponce, the best fighter on his record. No disrespect to Ponce De Leon, but he is a gatekeeper at best. A tough nut, and a game fighter, but somebody that true world class PROSPECTS have dealt with, stopped.

If Ricky Burns fought Broner tomorrow, I'd have my money on Burns. Broner is a lot of style, but not so much substance. He's young enough to develop, but for that he needs solid matching and with HBO blowing smoke up his ass he's unlikely to get it. I mean Gary Sykes?!

Broner is getting by on being really good at cutting weight.

Prospects? Only Juanma has achieved that feat. And the only other up and comer that legitimately defeated him was Caballero, and that was before Ponce's mass refinement as a fighter. Anyways, I think you're a tad harsh in saying he's at gatekeeper status, Antonio Escalante and Cornelius Lock are more gatekeepers than DPDL is, and he handled both of those pretty comfortably. He's a valid top 10 Super-bantam/Feather for my money, I think he gets a bit of a rough deal to be honest, and most of the time merely to besmirch Broner's name.

:nono Look at his next opponent.

So would David Haye. In other news:

    Ricky Burns beats Jeffrey Mathebula
    Marco Huck beats Felix Sturm
    and
    Miguel Cotto destroys Miguel Vasquez

In fairness it probably was harsh, and I'd definitely say he was a top 10 sb/fw/sfw. But I don't think he sits with the top 3 or 4 guys in the divisions, which Broner supposedly is.

I don't wish to besmirch Broner, so much as what his hype is built on. He may well develop into a top p4p fighter, or at least a solid champion at one weight or another. But so far it's been indicated that when he steps up to solid top ten guys like Ponce, he struggles. He had a very busy amateur career, but he wasn't an Olympian or a contender in the Worlds as far as I know, compared with Mayweather's very accomplished amateur pedigree. The kid is 22, he can come on leaps and bounds yet. He hasn't done much of note so far though.
