I lean towards Forrest in this one...Mayweather just isnt the kind of exceptional at welter that he was at 130-135. I firmly believe at 99-2001 Hoya beats him aswell.
Id go for Forrest. He has the height and reach advantage so Floyd could not pot shot him, he would have to be more aggressive because Forrest would be able to hit from distance and Floyd would not be in range to counter back therefore his sitting on the ropes would be nullified, he would have to meet him in centre ring otherwise Forrest would peck away with the jab and keep him on the outside and win a decision Forrest would be able to time Mayweather's attack to, because Forrest has good timing and he is a good counter puncher. Corrales had the same kind of height advantages as Forrest, but Corrales is not a fighter that dictates the fight with his jab and countering skills/Boxing etc.. Chico is a more aggresive fighter that does not have the ring intelligence of Forrest. He is all wrong for Floyd imo.
i like forrest in this one. forrest would be the biggest guy floyd would have faced at welter in addition to top notch boxing and a very good jab.
Floyd wins this one. Besides the totally unexplainable wins over Mosely, Forrest was always pretty ordinary. Floyd would outbox him all night long.
His wins over Mosley were pretty explainable, he dominated and dictated the distance with his jab and threw the right hand when he saw the openings and he tied Mosley up inside. How exactly would he outbox Forrest ? he would not be able to sit on the ropes because Forrest would be able to hit him and he would not be able to reach Forrest with his counters. He would not be able to stay at long range period because he would get picked apart with the jab. The only way i can see him winning the fight was by being more aggressive, his defensive style would not work with Forrest. Mayweather's style is based on drawing you into counter. He would not draw Forrest in to counter him because Forrest has the reach and he would be able to hit Floyd from further out where Floyd could not hit him.
Today - Vernon is like 36 and not very active. I think if he's coming back down to 147 - he kills himself trying to make weight and Floyd runs circles around him. If we're talking about the 147lbs Vernon - then I understand the arguement.
