So essentially Alexander is getting his stab at the welterweight king coming off victories over Maidana (decent W, but it was the WW debut for both...) and Bailey (over-the-hill one-trick-pony paper-titlist, and it was a boring and uninspired performance where Alexander failed to stop his man or shut him out - and elites should really do one or the other to Bailey) Before that, he should really have been coming off three consecutive losses at 140. I had him losing to Kotelnik and Matthysse, sandwiching the clear TD he dropped to Bradley. So going 2-3 in your last five with the 2 wins being "just okay" = you've hit the Money jackpot!
Oh and by the way....this just showed how good FMJ is and has NO PEERS. A fight with two belt holders in the division and a fight with a fighter that just KO Pacquiao would get no interest because everyone sees it as a total MISMATCH!!! Yet if Pacquiao took a fight versus Alexander or Guererro or even a 5th fight with JMM....it's "excellent matchmaking". ROTFLMMFAO
I will defend this fight. PBF has the right, especially at this age and just got out of jail to fight who ever he wants, even a "cab driver from Nepal". He is not doing anything different from what other ATGs had done before him. At least he is fighting a legit title holder with a winning record. Many ATGs before have taken up much less fighter while still being closer to their prime. If you are impress with PBF LONG resume then how you cannot say "Hey this guy is well in to his 30s, clearly showing age. He could retire but he continues to fight. Props to him." At the same time you could also say "Hey PBF - this is should be free. You are rich and legacy is secure. This match up does not deserve PPV". The only thing I can't defend if this is a PPV fight. This is where he hurts his fans, mainstream fans and his legacy. This HBO Championship Saturday night fight. No more no less. It is not some $60 PPV MGM fight. Props to Alexander who has continually taken legit top fighters at a very young age. Only Ward has taken more names near their prime. That being said, this is probably a negotiation move for a bigger name. PBF is too smart for the general public.
thought i had a good fight card to check out in Detroit in two weeks........... Guess Not! Still going to the fight on Feb23rd if K9 still getting down
I'm not a fan of this fight but was never a really a fan of the Guerrero fight. With that said stylistically Alexander is a harder match up for PBF.
floyd at this point can fight whoever the **** he wants. I'm supporting anything as long as I get to see floyd, people should just appreciate floyd as he has probably 3-4 fights left. It would be rare to see such a special talent in boxing again once he decides to quit
In terms of who deserves it most as a fighter i would say Guerrero (Over Canelo too) In terms of who would generate the most money i would go with Alvarez, however its poor business to take Alvarez at this stage when Alvarez is practically begging for the fight. Marquez.... No point in terms of what we want as fans, but could generate a lot of money. Alexander...... I would put money on the fight not happening. Floyd is the master of publicity. He knows business, and he knows the fight simply wont sell. Floyd is simply doing what he normally does. Getting people to talk about him before announcing his official opponent. I personally think it will be Guerrero. Just my views.
Alexander is a solid opponent, and I will be paying to watch this fight. Possibly even go down to Vegas to watch it. Let's go PBF vs Alexander
I gave Floyd credit for moving up and fighting Cotto at 154 because thats a weight class he will always have a slight disavantage due to his body size . (Although Cotto was at a slight disavantage as well because he not a natural 154 pounder himself) But this fight i dont want to hear about, i dont want to see it and i dont want nothing do with it . There will be no credit given for this bout .
I think so as well. He may even be trying to boost Alexander's name for the future if they fight. Then his fighter J'Leon Love was fighting on his card. So more exposure for him as well
