Very tough to pick. The early 130 pound version of Erik Morales is an underrated fighter. The biggest reason I think Barrera gave him so much trouble is Morales' lack of a left hand which is Barrera's kryptonite. Mayweather would not have a size advantage. Morales was one bigass 130 pounder. In the end I pick Morales to UD Mayweather.
I don't like Mayweather and am a fan of Morales but Mayweather is simply a better boxer: he has a better boxing IQ, is quicker and more fluid. I also believe Mayweather is the ATG at 130 and this is coming from a big Alexis fan, another fighter I would favor over EM at 130.
How would Mayweather handle the size and precision of Morales in your opinion? This is a big step up from Diego Corrales.
You seem to forget that 130 was most certainly NOT Terrible's best weight which was 122. I love Terrible but 130 doesn't suit him like it suits Mayweather who was naturally that big. The more legitimate question would be how would Erik deal with May's size at 130 as well as the aforementioned savvy, higher boxing IQ and speed. Not only that, May DESTROYED Corrales(wasn't that one at 135? I could be wrong). Are you thinking of Castillo?
Corrales was at 130. Morales IMO was better at 126 and 130 because he was a superior technical fighter there as well as a better chin. 28 year old Morales is the same size as 23 year old Floyd.
Floyd by UD. Morales would be busier but Floyd's defense would negate that advantage and he would counter all night long for a UD over the very game, skilled and durable Morales.
With all due respect Tinman, Erik was 4-3 at 130 with 2 ko losses to Pac and a decision loss to MAB. That was sandwiched around a decision loss to Zahir Raheem at lightweight. Erik was a great fighter, but at 130, he was vulnerable as the evidence indicates. No offense but I'm afraid you're overrating him at 130. Also I simply don't see that he was a "superior technical fighter" with a better chin than May at 130. Guess we will have to agree to disagree:good
Actually considering how easily Floyd beat Corrales at 130, I believe that would only enhance my position.
The two losses to Pacquiao were clearly faded and drained Morales. Prior to the Raheem fight he was very game at 130. I meant to say that Morales was better technically at 130 than he was at 122.
No doubt it was impressive. What I said in reference to Corrales is that Morales was a vastly better fighter and a step up from Corrales. A pre Raheem Morales would be BY FAR the best fighter Floyd ever fought. Can't stress that enough it's a whole other level.
