I was never a floyd “fan” per se - though I always respected his achievements and think he matched up well against most fighters historically (regardless of his own habit of waiting til he had a distinct advantage over people he would’ve beaten anyway...) but I always believed that Lara was THE toughest fight out there for him between 2012 to his retirement. He would’ve been fighting a slick southpaw, with decent power, and would’ve been giving up size and length - all the things that floyd tried to mitigate over the years rolled up into one package. The biggest issue that I can see is that Lara would not give a **** if the crowd were booing or if the fight was boring - he would’ve stuck to his plan and boxed his own game. Too many of floyds opponents got drawn out of their game plan to “make” the fight - as it was incumbent on them to seize their opportunity. Lara would not have done that. Floyd is the better fighter historically of course - but Lara was his toughest hypothetical stylistic match up in my opinion.
