Floyd is obviously far more talented n accomplished but he's in unfamiliar territory at 160. This fight does show that Duran could carry his power n had longevity but I'd rather give Duran props than wonder what Floyd would do at a weight higher than he's been proven at. If we're doin that then Nunn would've whopped him too but again packing pounds could've definitely been a detriment for Floyd.
I don’t think it’s that unfamiliar if we are strictly talking 160lbs Floyd’s probably fought his fair share of guys who weighed 160lbs on fight night - however Iran was a boiled down LHW…
He wouldn't need to pack on pounds. The in ring weights for Canelo and Barkley weren't much different. Mayweather could enter the ring at 152 and win.
Barkley was a huge middleweight, looked more like a light heavweight at 160.He would walk through Floyd. Show him no respect at all, pin him on the ropes and hit him everywhere he can.Arms, shoulders everywhere.Floyd has nothing to keep him away. he would be put in a purely defensive position. The difference in strength, punching power and height.Just think about a much bigger version of Maidana. This is a bridge too far for the highly skilled Floyd.
Yeah Duran couldn't get out of the faster, stronger, younger guys shots at times but his boxing IQ and pure grit more than made up for it.
Barkley was not a HUGE middleweight like say a Gerald. Jorge Amparo for Christ sakes had like what 10 fights when he fought Iran and he landed at WILL vs Barkley and lost by about 2 points. Sanderline Williams had basically no power and lost a split decision to Iran in a bout which could have easily gone to Sanderline. Where is this huge power of Irans? As a matter of fact what top middleweight other then Hearns did he ever stop? Kinchen? Mcswain? who list the names for me. Irans power is not on the same level as a Nigels or a Jacksons and yet you try to make it like it is.
Barkley was widely regarded as a puncher at 160. He was a big middleweight. He was 6ft1 ended up moving up several weight classes. He was not a skilled fighter and you are making a case for that. However, he was a puncher and a big middleweight. Floyd is just too small, skills would not matter
I have alot of respect for Iran because he hung in there and made it happen. But he was so freaking limited at one point he was let OUT of a contract by a promoter because they actually were concerned about how easily he was getting hit and the punishment he was taking against fighters he was suppose to be beating easily but was getting into wars with. That for sure is the wrong formula to go in against a sharp shooter like a Mayweather who also can move. If Barkley would have been champion when Mayweather was fighting I promise Mayweather would have jumped on that fight in seconds because those are easy match ups for Mayweather. Sure Barkley was heavy handed but no more then Canelo was and looked what happened.
