I wasn't referring to Chavez beating Taylor (which was definitely legit)... I was just making a reference to Taylor also being able to deliver those shots that you don't see coming.:good

I disagree. Mayweather isn't anything like Whitaker to be honest. Both great fighters but COMPLETELY different. Also, adding the fact that Whitaker is a southpaw to boot.

Castillo really isn't any bigger than Chavez.:think

I don't think this fight is a walkover for Chavez. Floyd's a great fighter and his boxing ability isn't an easy thing to overcome. However, as I said I definitely felt that Castillo beat Floyd. I also definitely don't feel that Castillo was better than prime JCC... and Castillo vs Mayweather is a much better gauge than Chavez vs Whitaker. I can also visualize Floyd boxing his way to a decision by not committing on his shots as well. It's just really hard to get the image of Castillo vs Mayweather out of my head.

    Excellent post.

I have kind of dismissed what happened in the first Castillo vs Mayweather Jr fight, and I wouldn't described Jose as being better than Chavez by any means. I think Chavez was the slightly better in fighter, same iron chin, and mixed up his combination's in more efficient fashion, both to head and body. If Mayweather has all he can handle against Castillo, you would have to think that Chavez would pose even more problems for Lil Floyd.

How am I disrespecting Chavez by stating the truth..I wrote an article about Chavez some years back, and in the article I stated that Chavez had fought something like 34 fighters that had less then 10 fights, and a village of guys that had losing record..I dont remember the numbers to the letter but thats in the ball park..Did Chavez beat some very good to great fighters? Of course he did, but they were mostly mid level champs, guys like Lockridge. In my mind his best win was over Rosario. BUT Chavez lost to the best fighters that he faced, and for me that is always a problem....

Well if that is the case that you cant get that fight out of your mind then you should remember that Floyd totally dominated Castillo for seven rounds, hurt his hand and lost some rounds at the end of the fight..There was also a rematch, do you seem to recall that one:huh

Yes. I felt that Floyd won the rematch. Why are you making this an argument about Floyd vs Castillo now?

Chavez was a little overrated because he record was thick. But at the end of the day, a lot of those guys were nobodies. Style wise, PBF is just bad for him. And remember, PBF fought with a bad shoulder the first JLC fight, second fight healthy, he danced around him.

Why do hold Castillo-Mayweather 1 so high in regard? Mayweather was not in in his prime yet and was still learning and perfecting his skills.

It seems his 2nd fight is completely disregarded even though he was 100% healthy in that fight.

i would be better if the fight is held at 130...2 of the best ever in the division

at 135, PBF is so unproven and i do not know if he has power in that weight.

Seriously, ppl seem to forget about the second fight. Mayweather didn't pull a "Pacquiao move" and let for years go by to possibly allow JLC to get older, he gave JLC an immediate rematch. PBF was healty in the second fight and clearly skilled JLC.

It would have been a great match. I would not bet against either of these guys. Chavez was getting past his prime by the time he faced Whitaker, so that needs to taken into consideration. Mayweather had a challenging fight against the Chavez that he did face, he took a lot of shots in that one. Prime Chavez (Rosario Verison) vs. Mayweather would have been a hell of a fight.

This rubbish should stop with people disrespecting 2 really great fighters. You cannot argue with the record of both guys. I really don't know who would have won both guys at their peak but what I can say is that they would give each other hell. These are 2 of the best ever fighters are I have seen not just in their era but in any era. Chavez skill levels is severely underestimated as is PBF's combination punching power.

Im believe strongly that the fighter that would beat Floyd would be a fast handed fighter with one punch power...someone like Mosley...guys that plod forward like Chavez wouldnt fair well, vs Floyd, at best they could win a few rounds toward the end of the fight ala Castillo...I think that Floyds toughest fight was vs Judah, until he had his meltdown...Judah was able to match speed with floyd and had the power to keep floyd honest and aware...

Widdow your wrong about Pea and Floyd, they were alot alike as fighters...both guys stood in the pocket and made fighters miss and countered..floyd is/was a better offencive fighter then Pea. Pea was really a one handed fighter, and had NO power in his right hand...I think that Pea was smarter, and better on D. Anyone that thinks those guys are totally different fighters didnt watch many of thier fights.

I'm glad you pointed that out, that is very true.

But like I said and what is obvious, PBF's shoulder was hurt in that fight, clearly wasn't 100%. You seen what happened 9 months later when both men were 100%

I just don't agree with that part. As far as ring intelligence, I rank them neck to neck, if I had to give the edge to someone, it would be PBF. The guy always knew what he had to do to get the W.

We're not disrespecting these guys. As you can see, everyone is this thread is adding input and discussing this fight while supporting their opinions.
