Well Frank Warren described Mayweather`s performance v Gatti as the best he had ever seen in the ring, his power and aggression was far more prominent in that fight than it was in his welter fights and Hatton isn`t even rated in most top pundits top 10 light welter`s of all time anyway. Hatton was fantastic at what he did but he was pretty one dimensional. Great fighter, great win though.

Hatton's high pressure, mauling style became markedly less effective at the higher weight. Hatton had all he could handle from even Luis Collazzo at 147.
But what does it matter if Floyd will be 150 on fight night regardless of at which weight they fight at? Hatton was a big dude at 140 and like you said, he used it to his advantage. At 147 he didn't have to drain himself as much. Floyd would always be 150 in the ring.
I am only commenting on Hatton being more effective at the lower weight. I bet Floyd actually weighed more than 150 at fight time when he fought Hatton at 147.
Most Floyd weighed in at was 151. When they did weigh him on the day of the fight, he was: 150 for Ortiz, 149 for Baldomir, 146 for Judah, 148 for Mitchell. The most likely scenario is that Hatton outweighed Floyd.
Floyd could make 140 easily if he cut water weight like 99% of other fighters do, He literally walked around within a pound or 2 of the welterweight limit while he was fighting and every time he fought at 154 he always weighed in below the limit, the most he ever weighed was 151lbs for a fight at 154. He didn't believe in draining his body before a fight like other fighters do and that's probably the reason he was able to remain at the top into his late 30's and still looks like hes in his late 20's in his 40's
