So was Duran. Durans legacy grew over time as did his apologists. The same might happen with Toney but I doubt it considering he's a unlikeable mumbling idiot and a drug cheat. Fantastic fighter though. One of my all time favourites drug cheat or not.

Just for the record, Laing was stopped twice by good and tough but not great Colin Jones before Duran lost to Kirkland. And he was beaten by Fred Hutchings just after Duran.

No, I don't think Duran would have ever quit in the first fight but I do think Leonard had the ability to edge the decision had he fought a smarter fight and listened to his trainer.

I disagree that Duran was way out of condition in the second fight. He was having trouble making the 147 limit and this was his last fight at welter. He was in condition but drained before the weigh in. I think he made a mistake by eating two steaks and four glasses of orange juice right before the fight. Leonard landed a nasty left to the stomach in the fourth round that couldn't have agreed with Duran's huge lunch. If you remember, Leonard didn't clown in the entire fight except for about one minute in the seventh round. Duran was diagnosed with stomach distention after the fight. He was frustrated with Leonard because Ray was faster, stronger and more elusive than he was in the first meeting but I think he quit because of the cramping and because he wasn't feeling well. In the eighth round he seemed resigned to the fact that he couldn't compete with Leonard feeling less than 100%. Leonard's jab never missed in the last two rounds.

Back to the topic at hand. Floyd vs Duran. It really depends on the given night which Mayweather and which Duran entered the ring.

There is no excuse for not coming into shape, especially for such a superfight. And it is beyond disgraceful to quit the way Duran did. He truly deserves all the stick he gets for the unthinkable quit job. However, as soon as Duran took his robe off, Carlos Palomino said that the fight was already over.

You're really proving to be garbage poster with these idiotic comments you're leaving on this thread.

The only one of those fights you watched where Duran was in prime condition is the first fight and he dealt with Leonards speed just fine with a masterful display of slipping and countering Leonards fast combinations. We all know Duran was out of shape in the second fight and he was way past his best in the 3rd.

If you want to judge what would happen if
Duran and Mayweather fought then its best you watch Duran at lightweight when he was in his prime fighting at his natural weight. Duran had already carved himself as the greatest lightweight of all time before he fought in the era of the fab 4 having had 70+ fights.

Oh, and in a fantasy match with Mayweather vs Duran Mayweather wouldn't be the only master boxer in the ring. Durans one of the craftiest and slickest to ever lace them up. People who have watched extensive footage of Duran know this.

You hit 9.5 on the noobster scale with that hideous comment above ^

Don't forget that mean streak Duran had,. As great as Floyd was at the lower weights, it's just way too much to deal with
