Youre' absolutely right. Bigger, more lucrative fights were available. Why re-sign a slave contract with Top Rank to fight Margarito, when you can become your own boss and fight DLH for 25million, and eventually get 200-300million paydays against Pac and Mcgregor.
I just rewatched Void vs. Oscar, Oscar beat the hell out of Void, when asked, Mayweather, Sr. said if you go by points you have to give the decision to Oscar, yet the criminal judges still gave Void a gift! I think Forrest would have been a problem for Void, damn, Oscar sure out worked and out landed Void when they fought, watch the replay, no way could you give that fight to Void..........
Both are great fighters.but Floyd is in different level. And as you mentioned both were dominating Tony,Floyd is extremely strong finisher. i understand that we want Floyd lose badly, but you would need somebody like PRIME Leonard,PRIME Duran etc to do it,and even then it would be questionable. Floyd is just that great, this generation did not have that many PRIME great boxers. The few there were,Floyd did not meet them in their primes. but that's again totally different subject, why and how that happened
Heres where your argument comes up short. PUnching power. Both Sergio and Cotto hit harder than FlIVd which allowed them to slow Margaritos attack. The only way FlIVd wins that fight is running and holding for 12 rounds which is a real possibility. Not saying Margo beats FlIVd easily or definitely i just believe odds are he would have. FlIVd retired to avoid the match so that says a lot. Btw i AM NOT someone who just wants to see FlIVd lose badly. The only thing i ever wanted from him was to fight the best at their best.
