if you mean in PPV terms jones was never, ever as big as floyd.
tito and oscar were the biggest non-heavy cashcows of their era but maybe even floyd can rival tito - not because he has the following, but because people are lining up to see him get beaten.

    doesn't matter to floyd.

You'll never know since Floyd retired. If he was such a major draw, he';d be able to get the money he wants on his own merits. Not requiring a major name to do it. And I don't think Floyd was quite in the Tito category as well. Tito was able to sell because he was exciting and people wanted to see him. King brought him up on Tyson undercards which helped expose him to a HUGE audience.

I think many of you greatly over estimate how many people would buy a fight of his just to see him lose. Wanting him to lose, and deciding to spend $50 to see it are two entirely separate boats.

But you are right, Jones never was a draw himself. Which is why he was on HBO Champ for the most part of his career.

both jones and hopkins were long standing and legitimate champs, they weren't PPV flops for any other reason than they didn't sell tickets and part of that was that they had so few showdowns that meant anything.

both ruled weak divisions and were undeniably masters of their art, if either had successfully weight jumped instead of staying in their respective divisions then things would have been different.

you're not giving floyd credit for how brilliant a fighter he is.

jumping weights isn't like skipping rope.

but then again, floyd didn't fight the best around post-gatti.

floyd beating gatti paved the way because gatti was a high profile fighter with a fanatical following, and a lot of people (hopefully) learnt the difference that night between an underskilled warrior who was carved out of wood and a prodigal son who demanded that we sit up and pay attention.

Mayweather needs to come down to earth and realize he isnt nearly as big a PPV attraction as he thinks. DLH and Hatton are to be atttributed for the good PPV numbers in his fight.

I'd love someone to explain to me what it is in the welterweight career of Floyd Mayweather that tells people he could dominate a big, strong, powerful, fast, granite-chinned, skilled and proven welterweight like Mosley. Mayweather was not the same fighter at 147 that he was at 130, hence his significantly weaker opposition at 147. Mosley would present him with a whole host of problems, and Floyd knows it. Floyd has never fought anyone with the punch power, handspeed, chin or class of Shane Mosley. He has never fought anyone as good as Mosley period. I do not understand the basis for anyone thinking it would be an easy night.

Mosley is strong and powerful, but he is certainly not big.

And considering that Mosley also came from 135, why are you making this discussion exclusive of anything Floyd has done outside of 147? Thats like me saying what has Mosley done at 140 that proves he could hang with Floyd.

They are almost identical in size, so what the hell does size or weight matter?

3 years ago you'd have a point, but Mosley is 37 years old, and it showed when he was outboxed over 12 rounds by friggin Miguel Cotto. Someone with not near the boxing intelligence, skill, speed or chin as Mayweather. He got tired, and when Mosley gets tired he gets sloppy. He can work fightrs like Margarito that are always going to be infront of him with basically no defense to speak off. But Mosley has struggled against guys like Vernon Forrest and Winky Wright, fighters that bring a host of problems for a fighter like Shane. And that was Shane in his prime, not 37 year old Mosley. You dont think Mayweather cant out point Mosley similar to how Cotto did?

Floyd tried to get a fight with Mosley 3 years ago, now he's scared of him lol? :rofl Given that Roger Mayweather predicted Mosley would beat Margarito's ass, I think the Mayweathers know what they are talking about when analyzing a fight.
