This is called "fighting a decent opponent" and is usually praiseworthy, and is definitely why people watched.

McGregor is an obvious exception, but he was way past retirement age when he did that.

Other fighters wanted to face Floyd because of the big payday.

And Tyson Fury is only a draw because his imitates Floyd Mayweather. But Floyd knew what he is doing. There are 50 million plus Mexicans living off the USA now. They will support whatever Mexican fight they can in a boxing match. If Floyd fought a black guy who would care? The smaller black population? If he fights a Mexican or Asian fighter then the smaller black population will watch Mayweather. The 50 million plus Mexican or the Asian population will watch the Mexican or Asian fighter and the white American boxing fans will watch to see the Mexican or Asian boxer beat Mayweather.

Floyd may not be bright but clearly he understood that.

What a revelation? With that said most fighters need a known guy to draw big. What was Pac's PPV numbers against Rios or Algieri for example? PBF was a draw you making a thread about him almost 6 years after him retiring proves it. The numbers don't lie. PBF was the face of boxing and the cash cow for years. 400K against Berto is better than just about anyone today. I don't see that as bad.

You need to go back to you prediction thread about BJS schooling Canelo. Give Canelo credit or log off.

    This is trolling.

I have no idea why you'd consider the other guys big "draws" and not Floyd.

Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao sold more PPVs in the U.S. than any other boxing or MMA event.

    Mayweather-Pacquaio is #1.

    Mayweather-McGregor is #2 all-time.

    Mayweather-De La Hoya is #3

    Mayweather-Canelo is #5 all-time.

    Mayweather-Cotto is #12.

Mayweather-Mosley is tied for #14, along with Manny-Marquez III and De La Hoya-Trinidad - which is the highest Manny or Oscar got when they weren't fighting Floyd ... tied for #14.

Canelo doesn't even have another one in the top 20.

So how is Floyd "not" the draw ... when all of them needed Floyd to sell so many PPVs?

Oscar couldn't sell as many without Floyd. Canelo couldn't. Manny couldn't. Floyd was the guy selling the PPVs whether he was fighting Oscar, or Canelo, or Manny or McGregor or Cotto of Mosley.

    Floyd was the common denominator.

When we talk about a fighter being a bigger "draw" than another fighter, historically we're talking about attendance figures, or anotherwords, butts-in-seats. OK? If you ask someone who was a bigger draw Jack Dempsey or Joe Louis, there was no such thing as PPV back then, so the answer to that question was who drew more people to watch them fight.

Mayweather is clearly the PPV King, no one is debating that. However when it comes to who is a bigger draw, Mayweather is not as big of a draw as Canelo or even Pacquiao. Why? Because for one, Mayweather never tested how big of a draw he really was becuse he never fought in a stadium. Mayweather only fought in small arenas. He sold out arenas, but his drawing power was limited by the capacity of the arena. Pacquiao fought in stadiums, Pacquiao took the show on the road and fought Jeff Horn in a Rugby stadium in front of 51,052 people. Pacquiao was clearly a bigger draw than Mayweather. 51,000+ would not pack a Rugby stadium just to see Jeff Horn fight Joe Schmoe.

Now could Mayweather have packed a stadium? Maybe, maybe not. Who knows, fact is he never tried. But more people hit the "Buy" button on their cable TV remote when Mayweather was fighting than anyone else, and Mayweather charged people more $$ for tickets to watch him fight live than anyone else. So he made the most $$. That doesn't make him a bigger draw though. When we're talking about who is a bigger draw, we're talking about who drew the biggest crowds for their fights. This isn't a theoretical scenario, being a draw isn't about who made the most $$. Making the most $$ is more about the business side of boxing than how big of a draw you are.
