If you think Mayweather would have been stupid enough to fight Duran like Leonard fought him in the first fight, then maybe you are the one who needs a reality check.

Duran would have walked into counter after counter all night. Not saying Floyd would have definitely won, but he isn't going to take that kind of beating from Duran.

I agree that Hearns would have been too much, considering his length and speed. I also think Leonard would have been able to outpoint him do to workrate and equal skill level.

    Wait. Forgot one thing.

Floyd weighs in at 147 and fights at 147 or 148. He doesn't have to rehydrate as much as all these fighters today. He would be facing guys his own size back then, instead of giving up 10, 15, or even more on fight night.

Leonard was given no choice, and neither was the box and move Buchanan.

You obviously have no idea about Duran at his best.

To beat him you had to be better at everything he did, and Mayweather isn't.

Mayweather is much better than you're giving him credit for. Again, I'm not saying he would have definitely beaten Duran, but he wouldn't have been steamrolled as you are implying.

When has Mayweather EVER since moving up to 147 enjoyed the luxury of fighting guys his own size? Only Zab and Marquez. Duran wouldn;t have been able to bully Floyd, and he wouldn't have the speed to catch up to him consistently, especially if Floyd wasn't willing to engage.

I believe Floyd would have held his own with those guys... Only bad matchup in my opinion would be Hearns. I don't think he quite had the power and offense to keep the longer, equally fast, deadly jabbing, and much more powerful Hearns from landing the right eventually.

He wouldn't be 'just another guy', but he wouldn't be undefeated either, and he wouldn't be the pound for pound number one. He'd most likely lose to Hearns and Leonard, and while I would favour him against Duran, he could very well lose that match too. It would be competitive.

Mayweather would do a lot better in the past era than most fighters around today.

    That's for damn sure.

Yet the only guys I see Floyd losing to are the guys Duran lost to. I guess that means Floyd is ordinary?

At welterweight he wouldn't be as highly lauded, but at 130 and 135 he would
still be elite. Vastly superior to most out there. I'd say top 10 welterweight and
    top 5 at 130 or 135

I think this goes up there as one of the most dumbass comments in ESB history. 44 fight wins and they ALL have something wrong with them? Please dazzle us with your boxing knowledge and explain what was wrong with all 44 fights.

The interview is weird. Duran is being disrespectful and praising Floyd at the same time.

One time he says, "Floyd will just be another boxer in his era," but then also says "the problem right now is that Mayweather is fighting in an era where there are no real boxers," basically suggesting Floyd is a class above everybody else today.

He may mention Floyd by name but he's also disrespecting many others like Ward, Pacquiao, JMM. Each of these guys I feel could have had some success back then as well.

But to be honest that is the mentality many of the greats have. They would never admit someone is better or that someone could best them in the ring. So really Duran is no different than Floyd. Well of course except for the fact that Floyd's no quitter.
