Hey, i haven't mentioned Jones or even been in the discussion. I've always said Jones was one of the hardest fighters in history to hit. Many will argue he had to be*

    * Not neccessarily moi

I had a big debate with senya on the merits on hearns punching at 160 which he considers not special!!! I mean maybe we should ask roldan and hagler about that?

senya: jones was schooled at ****,he got completely knocked the **** out by two ordinary fighters in his thirties, robinson was never stopped by punches in 201 contest lasting till he was an old geezer at 45.....
Why do you love roy soo much your objectivity goes out of the window?
I remeber you said kesslers jab was one of the greatest of all times until calzaghe outjabbed him over the latter part of the fight....what gives senya? WHY? why do you make such ridiculous statements and then not retract them?
ps; after 2003 was when the balco scandal made it hard for him to take his designer steroids and thus we see the consequent spiralling downfall of roid jones.....

Hearns' record at 160lb is a factual proof of him not being a big puncher there.

Jones was stopped by two best light heavyweights beside himself at the time of their fights. Ray Robinson was knocked down by guys like Mitsos Grispos 1-14-3 and Wilf Greaves 34-20-1 and 34-21-1. Imagine Jones getting knocked down by Ricky Randall or Rollin Williams twice.

Thanks to Senya who has an open mind enough to at least analyse what on the face of it appears a heretic statement.

What makes LaMotta so unbeatable? He used to take horrendous punishment, and didn't really have extraordinary KO power. I think with Floyd's excellent defence, he could easily outpoint LaMotta in an easy points victory. LaMotta didn't even have a defence - just some sort of rock for a face.

Robinson is harder because the guy had it all - a good chin, decent power, speed and could roll with the punch to minimise it. But that doesn't apply to Floyd because he has no power at 147 anyway. Cut to the chase, I think Floyd could defend himself adequately for 12 rounds and counter punch to a points victory. If it comes down to attack over defence - I think Floyd could get more punches in and defend more punches from Robinson. There is a danger of KO from Robinson here but not if Mayweather is his usual cautious self.

Here is a list of all the fighters who beat Ray Robinson.

    Jake LaMotta
    Randy Turpin
    Joey Maxim
    Ralph Jones (32-12-3)
    Gene Fullmer x 2
    Carmen Basilio
    Paul Pender x 2
    Denny Moyer
    Phil Moyer
    Terry Downes
    Joey Giardello
    Mick Leahy
    Memo Ayon
    Stan Harrington (57-16-1) x 2
    Ferd Hernandes
    Joey Archer

On that basis, there are a lot of 'greatest fighters of all time' - an accolade given just for being able to beat the perceived best.

ron_uk, you ought to ring up your mother and tell her you need to go back to breastfeeding - your brain is obviously not developed enough to come off the teet yet.

You do surely realise that with the exception of LaMotta who was the only man to beat Ray at his peak, every other loss Ray suffered happened when he was already on the decline or was a mere shell of his former self.

...So this feverishly compiled BoxRec list is your measure of Robinson? Pathetic.

God knows what you must think of Ike Williams, Joe Brown and Bob Montgomery.

Nobody is claiming that except Floyd himself or his trainer. But that doesn't mean just because some fighters are legends, they easily wipe out any modern fighter. We are talking about one of the best technicians of all time, who has gone undefeated and won title at 5 weights separated by 24 pounds. Anybody who's claiming he's gonna get wiped out easily doesn't know what he's talking about.
