Zivic was indeed at the end of a long career that is true, although he would continue fighting a full five years after his last bout vs LaMotta before retiring for good. But you seem to completely discount his overwhelming edge in experience over a still young LaMotta when they first met and that cannot be overlooked.

And you keep harping on about how LaMotta was not able to put his man away and hold this against him as some kind of proof that he was a mediocre fighter. When in fact the real story would be that Zivic, being the tough, hard man he was could last the distance with a peak LaMotta by virtue of his ring smarts and durability, even though he had a lot of mileage on him.

Fritz wasn`t an easy man to stop, and LaMotta while a harder puncher than given credit for and the naturally bigger man doesn`t necessarily equate to his stopping him. Zivic was robbed of the decision in their first fight by all accounts I`ll give you that, but in the rematch it was LaMotta who was screwed out of the decision, as the fight took place in Ziv`s hometown of Pittsburgh.

The 3rd fight was a close, but LaMotta did win it and the 4th meeting he won outright with no controversy. So I really don`t know what you are trying to prove by repeatedly bringing up LaMotta`s close fights vs Zivic, someone who would have been a nightmare for Floyd, and who would have beaten him more often than not.

As for LaMotta looking poor in the final Robinson bout, I believe there is more than enough information out there as to why that was so, so I won`t repeat it as you can look it up yourself. All I will say is that for someone who came in weight drained and in such **** poor shape he had the better of Ray for the first ten rounds until he punched himself out.

He even managed to outjab him quite a bit, not exactly an easy feat to accomplish against someone like Ray. As for the Hairston bout, I don`t know what fight you were watching but LaMotta won that fight clearly, although it was close. Unless you are reffering to their first bout, in which case I should point out that LaMotta was already past his best, and was facing a very good prospect looking to make a name for himself against a name opponent in Jake.

He lost a close decision to the younger hungrier, fighter who would go on to have a very respectable career. Many a great fighter lost to a young upstart late in their careers, so LaMotta is hardly alone in that regard and there is no shame in losing to a fighter like "Silent" Eugene Hairston who was a damn good fighter.

I get the impression that he meant to mention your name Ron, but accidentaly typed in Dopple`s name instead. Could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that is what he wanted to say.

I don't think that Mayweather is less experienced than Zivic if we include his amateur career as well. The point is so many people here think LaMotta will slaugther Floyd, which never actually happened when LaMotta faced good fighters. Cerdan retired (after fighting 10 rounds with a very serious injury), Dauthuille got careless the only reason it ended like that. Basora was worn out. None of the three is even close to Mayweather in class or achievements. Just as Zivic was able to keep LaMotta off balance and miss most of his punches and not being able to do that much damage inside, Mayweather will do the same thing, he's far superior to Zivic too in skills which will compensate the lack of dirty tricks which Zivic had in abundance. Today Zivic would have no chance vs Mayweather, Floyd would win 10 out of 10, that's a certainty.
LaMotta had the better of Robinson in first ten rounds? What fight were you watching? As for LaMotta landing jabs on occasion, I repeat that Robinson was lacking a lot in defensive department.
I'm talking the 1st fight with Hairston, where LaMotta got outboxed and outfought, and looked like a clueless novice most of the time, but got a gift of a decision (draw).

    !

This ron_uk made a sarcastic comment 'so Floyd is the best in the world now' - implying that the idea of Floyd beating this guy would make him the best in the world.

I'm saying there are a dozen fighters who have already beat him - a couple of journeymen as well, which proves that when they beat SRR they didn't become the best in the world.

You say ron_uk frazzled me verbally, he posted a stupid statement and I more than made my point without purely insulting him.

And you're all going on at me for using boxrec as if it's a heinous offence. It's a good, quick, easy, reliable resource.
Did those fighters beat SRR or not? Ron-UK's point is that to beat SRR you need to be the best in the world, and this is clearly not the case - he's lost to a lot of boxers. All fighters struggle stylistically at some point.

Is this guy serious - LaMotta was primarily a middleweight 160lb fighter.

    Stop being a clown.

Ah, but you made that statement regarding SRR's defeats without into account that the losses to journeymen occurred well after he was past his prime. When he was in his prime, he lost once, in a little over 125 fights. He had some close calls, but, then again, Mayweather has had a couple of close calls, too, in a career that's considerably less extensive.

Context is everything in these types of situations...and your argument doesn't take that into account.

    I don't know...attacking someone's family (even in jest)

Whose family have I attacked? I have a good mind to sue you for slander.

When SRR lost once, he was 16lbs less than LaMotta - I'm surprised no-one has pointed that out. Over a stone in weight, over two weight divisions difference.

But for a bunch of geeks who surf boxrec for their revisionist opinions, you'd have to have an eagle eye for that detail.
SRR was also 40-0-0 when he fought LaMotta, not 216 or several hundred as you lads seem to be coming up with.

Lamotta actually started out at light-heavyweight, and really, boiled down to 160lbs only after 1942. Even then, he still weighed 164-65 for quite a few of his fights. He may not have been a tall middleweight, but, he sure as hell was a big middleweight, in terms of his build.

You made a comment to ron u.k. regarding "breastfeeding". That seems to be the source of that argument. Not certain if it qualifies as an attack, per se, but, it did seem to be an ad hohinem remark.

The 'insult' aimed at ron uk, was that his brain was so small that it was comparable to a child's at the age of breastfeeding. I never insulted his mother, or any member of his family.
