But he was 124-1-2 up till the time that he faced Randy Turpin, in 1951. Even in 1960, when he lost the middleweight championship for the last time, he was 143-6-2. That's an insanely high success rate, against top quality opposition, over an extended period of time.

Those are facts...simple as that. Go ahead...feel free to spin them as you choose.

It was still a perjorative remark, though. Do you intend to make similar remarks to everyone on this site who disagrees with your opinions?

....yeah, it was the breastfeeding remark i was mostly thinking of, and thanks to the guys who corrected me. I made my living for years as a comic and the main thrust of my act was being insulting and it's also large part of my writing career, so I'm not adverse to that tactic. I just think in general on discussions like these they are irrelevant. And by that I mean those that go beyond the subject under discussion.

Now, it's obvious that doppleganger is stupid ON THIS SUBJECT. For instance, the list of guys who beat Robinson was so foolish that the guys smarter than Doppleganger (meaning just about all of us) jumped on it right away. While I'm on that topic I'll point out that at least five guys on it would beat the pretty one. Doppleguy can try to figure out who they are if he is so inclined.

Now, Doppleboy may be just as dumb in other areas as well....communication skills come to mind....but I'll wait for proof to see if he is...in the meantime I will not say he is ******ed or that he isn't a fine fellow when it comes to his family or his freinds.

Saying how Pretty Boy would 'own' SRR and LaMotta, puts me in mind of a cartoon I saw in a newspaper:

A 5-year-old is looking up at his father laying in a hammock.

'Dad, you have to fight Billy's father with one hand tied behind your back!'

Zivic faced a LOT of nobodies in his career, he wasn't fighting top quality opposition all the time, obviously. While modern amateur boxing and pro boxing rely on somewhat different principles, Floyd still got a lot of experience, while using pretty much the same style he used as a pro.

Castillo as a boxer (skillwise) is head and shoulders above LaMotta. LaMotta cutting off the ring as good as Castillo? I really hope you are joking.

Cerdan, of course, didn't injure his shoulder without the help of LaMotta, but that's not the point. One-handed fighters lasted 10 rounds with LaMotta twice (Zivic and Cerdan), and he couldn't finish them by punching. That's just shows how ineffective he was at both cutting off the ring and working the body, that 10 rounds is not enough for him in such circumstances. Zivic even traded with him several times in the last round.

A mediocre fighter like Dauthuille, gave LaMotta a boxing lesson for nearly full 15 rounds, but unlike him, Floyd wouldn't lose concentration after doing the very same thing. It wasn't LaMotta finding an opening, it was Dauthuille making a simple mistake every normal fighter is told about by his trainer.

Zivic pretty much same size, with singificantly worse skills and smarts, inferior in speed and reflexes, and with referee that looks out for his tricks, would have success against Floyd? Spare me of your fairy tales, please.

You want to say that LaMotta won first ten rounds of St. Valentine's fight with Robinson? Did I get it right?
And LaMotta even outjabbed Robinson, according to your version of events, rather than just land a jab or two here and there, on occasions?

Hairston fight was just one example of LaMotta being outboxed despite all the qualities you attribute to him. Again, spare me of that "underestimated" argument. He got outboxed and outfought in a kind of fight he likes the most, where opponent is not running, but is staying right in front of him most of the time and trading willingly. You can find more examples of LaMotta's style not being overly effective or not effective at all, despite the advantages in age, physical strength, stamina, chin, workrate or whatever else. Because he was only a mediocre boxer.

You are an idiot who thinks better film quality = better fighter. Just because the film quality isn't very good and it is blurry and looks slow doesn't mean they are.

Sorry, but I'll better play SpellForce2 Dragon Storm, than dig up LaMotta's clippings again. Just one short point though. I never understood why LaMotta is being called swarmer. In all the film I've seen, despite being a pressure fighter, he is a brawler more than a swarmer. It's like calling Marciano a swarmer too.

    I consider them both swarmers.

A "slugger" is someone like Ricardo Mayorga, Sakio Bika, or a lot of the lower level pro boxers around. There is a lot more science and calculation to the way Marciano and LaMotta slipped punches from the outside, and used head movement, angles and footwork to make their way inside where they could score points and cause damage.

Marciano was a lot "sloppier" sure, but he could afford to be sloppy because his opponents respected his power and one good punch in the right place could end it. LaMotta was very measured and skilled technically, firing rapid fire combinations as soon as he made his way into range.

If you're judging solely by particular fights such as the Cerdan fight, I could perhaps see your case for calling him a slugger, but it was the circumstances of the fight that made LaMotta fight that particular way.

I would fancy both Robinson and LaMotta to handle Floyd.

When you have guys like Battling Nelson, Harry Greb, Henry Armstrong, Fighting Harada, Joe Frazier, Ricky Hatton, those are swarmers, as probably more than 2/3 of the time of the fight they spend infighting, it doesn't take them as much time as it takes LaMotta or Marciano to get inside.
