ummm yeah he did. right after the Gatti fight. thats the only reason why Mayweather fought Gatti so he can fight Hatton and Hatton said no. then he tried to fight Cotto and Arum wouldnt let him. its a damn shame.....
I don't believe in ducking, when you consider boxing a "business" ... Especially in a full contact sport, they're in the sport for a reason and they don't hold back and they don't scare that easily. Mayweather never ducked or dodged anyone ... and i'm sure that if he was made a significant offer then he wouldve fought whoever many fans believe he's been ducking. Margarito is not marketable ... Mosley has 5 L's on his resume and isn't seen as a legit threat or a good legacy fight Hatton has a good fan base, good record, good credentials ... Hatton had every belt in the division but the one that Floyd Mayweather had and later vacated ... he then challenged Mayweather along with his undefeated record and 4-time championship resume. DLH career speaks for itself Cotto was accomplished, yet unproven and hadn't did good on PPV numbers, his fan base were restricted to the east coast.
Those are some dam good credentials. The only thing keeping him from the top 10 ATG in my opinion is that he has not faced and beat anyone who is percived to be abale to beat him. Diego Corrales was probbly the closet. Zab Judah was coming off a loss to Carlos Manuel Baldomir who was acatulay on a good run beating Judah and Arturo Gatti. Oscar De La Hoya was old and past his best (poisibily still the best at 154.), and Ricky Hatton was not fighting at his best weight. He retired"without facing Antonio Margarito and/or Miguel Angel Cotto to boxers who a lot of people thought could beat him. (Mayweather would beat them both.) Hopefuly talks of a comeback are real and we will see him in the ring facing the winner of Ricky Hatton vs. Manny Pacquiao in late 2009 or early 2010.
