How would you judge Mayweather's run at LW? Beat Castillo twice, Victoriano Sosa, and Phillip Ndou before moving up to Super Lightweight.
It's nothing is it, that's no disrespect, he had a great win during his lightweight campaign, that's it though, in the grand scheme of things.
For whatever reason Floyd lightweight run didn't suit him all that much, his only spectacular performance there was the Ndou fight.
It seems his mission to win titles at a record pace took away the chance of him having some depth in these weight classes like he did @ 130. His run @ 140 was abysmal (should of stayed IMO). He fought the best guys 130-135 though.
Depends if you count the 130lb run as junior feather and LW were once the same division. The 135lb fights alone could include Corrales as Corrales came in over the limit and the fight went ahead. Castillo was no1 and Ndou was a top10 prospect on a very good KO run, think he was undefeated too from what I remember.
30-1 30 KO's. He too spend most of his career below the 135lb limit. I believe he only had 2-3 fights at the weight before being stopped by Floyd.
Bolanos was destroying everyone in his path, 1 of the most feared P4P punchers, the size of a WW, wins over the best LWs of his era like Castillo, Casamayor, Freitas? Genuine question I've only seen Williams-Bolanos and Bolanos seemed much more a boxer mover type
Corrales should have been at LW and would have been his best win. I remember seeing how he destroyed Manfredy on the Tua Rahman 1 undercard who I thought would give him a tough fight at that time. Manfredy was on a decent run. I was quite impressed. More impressed than his win over Hernandez who was old at that time.
I searched for the most recent ring ratings available before Floyd fought Sosa and NDou but neither was in the top10. I wasn't following the LW scene when those fights happened so I don't know what their perception was back then but like I said on Ring Mag they were not top 10 from what I've been able to find.
