I think it all comes down to how much ones reputation is worth to him. Im sure Floyds an alright guy and he acts like this just so he can get more attention and sell more PPV's. Now I can sit here and say thats low of him, but his the one that puts his life on the line in the ring and if he thinks his thug attitude gets him more money, than so be it, his ok with trading his reputation for more money.

I won't comment on the content of the thread, because I tend to seperate a person's actions outside the ring or any sport from my adoration of their skill in the sport.

However, the thread starter isn't new to the sport, and is a former boxer himself.

I know. I'm not talking about him. I really do respect him, actually, and enjoy his posts (and even the little "guess who" quizzes)

I'm talking about some PBF hater (who will admit he hates him) and his thread "is Mayweather the most hated ever"...

No way. Mayweather's probably not known enough to the most hated... And yes, I'm the same. A persons actions or personality outside the ring has very little on my thoughts of them inside the ring... Hence why Floyd is still one of my favourite fighters today.

Ahh...my mistake. I misread your post. I don't have time to hate any fighter (or anyone for that matter) takes too much energy.

    :good

Although I must admit I wear my heart on my sleeve in regards to a few fighters. But it's actually not about their personality, per se. Just the misfortune of them being born in a country that happens to be the rival of MY country... E.g. Calzaghe (although, technically, my rivaly is with England, Great Britian suffices. :D )

As shitty as this sounds, I think Floyd kind of has to act that way depending on which media outlet he is being interviewed. That clip is from him making a cameo at a rap station, right? I think he would be alienating that fan base who embraces all of the bull**** associated with hip hop culture if he didn't brag about his skills, money, and material things. Because I guess that's what draws those kinds of fans to certain athletes, it seems.

If he's being interviewed by ESPN or USA Today, for example, he is far more cordial. And less of a petulant little kid who says **** a lot, like you saw in that clip. In fact, when he's not putting on that act, I've actually seen him say some remarkably candid and modest things about himself.

But Duran was a bad man. He gave the impression he meant every word of it. And lived that way.

Floyd looks like a little kid trying to play gangster. You can tell it's not him. You can tell it's an act.

Then you read about Floyd helping charities out a lot etc, and wonder, why does he feel the need to act that way?

It's an interesting question. PBF DOES help charities and does seem to have some genuine qualities somewhere.

I dunno, I guess it's just who he is. But as I said earlier, I'm the type of guy that usually don't let a fighter's personality, or "who they are", have that big a impact on whether I'm a fan of them in the ring.

    Although there's ALWAYS a few exceptions. :D

Listen, this is a different era. People LOVE Duran still because he was mean and he FOUGHT LIKE IT, They love him like they love Tyson. Look, go to the HOF this year and watch the people FLOCK to Duran. Now Floydis a great fighter, drawing bigger than ever now, etc etc etc...I KNOW...what I am saying is that in 20 years (from NOW) Floyd will not be a beloved, adored figure in th egame who attracts throngs of people to him at events. No way, no how.

Well, that's hardly keeping it real is it?

That's performing like a highly paid court jester.

GRAP.... look, my man, SRL and Oscar, and Holyfield made TONS of money AND will be revered long after they are gone and they didn't have to do ANY of that stuff. Floyd will gain thuggish fans with his ways...but alienate WAY MORE than that. He's trading 100 fans for every ten. In twenty years Floyd will NOT be loved by fans. They will always be drawn to men like Oscar, etc.

There is also an argument that in 20 years people will have "forgotten" about the way Floyd acts up on cameras, much like all these "thugs" we consider greats today... In 20 years, it will just be his performances in the ring (and probably more his charity work etc...), that will be mentioned in writings and documentary's about him.

    I suppose it's a matter of time.
