Promoters get paid a percentage of fighter's purse that they represent. If the promoter controls only one fighter he gets only the agreed upon percentage for that fighter's purse. It is usually a bigger/smaller arrangement.

If he controls both fighters he gets a percentage from BOTH cuts of the purses. The promoter has reason to lock out fighters that may stick him with the "smaller" portion of the purse. Maybe even more incentive if the other fighter might school his fighter. The promoter even has reason to "fix" fights.

To cover his tracks he just says his guys are being "ducked". Then he arranges in house bouts for peanuts while protecting his cash cows with crap matchups.

Great for the promoter (Bob Arum). Horrible for boxing!

If he puts his fighters up against different opposition then he's still getting a cut+ building them up. Holy**** you're ****ing ******ed

 

he didn't care about the Welterweights. they were talented but could not bring the money he got accustomed to so he retires. but then Oscar-Pac(at 147) happened and $$$ got floyd thinking: "this little guy can be pulled to welterweight". too bad Pac eventually showed that he could take it.

It was even a SD, which floyd doesn't count.

There is no defense for this clown.
He talks all the game in the world and then what's he do? Get FORCED to fight a 38 year old mosley. He shouldnt have to be forced to fight guys who are almost 40.

First, there is no scientific rating system in boxing so who is "ranked" where is relative.

Second, what did he lose by Clottey losing? What did he lose by Cotto losing? One loss doesn't end a career idiot. And the gravy train keeps rolling as long as the "marketable" guy wins.

In ALL Top Rank matchup the guy with the most earning upside seems to always win. :think
