Oscar aged 23 beat old chavez Lopez 23 beats Loma Yet Canelo who had been pro for 8 years with 40 fights loses to Floyd and Floyd gets no credit for beating green canelo, despite being over the hill The Goat Duran was beating Dejesus at a similar age and many were already proclaiming him as a great Lightweight Tyson is another who was the man blasting everyone away at that age Canelo may not have been prime, but after rewatching the full fight, it's bloody ridiculous how good a 36 year old Floyd was I know he's hated on this forum, that's fine. But I tell you now, nobody fighting today's is as talented. Not usyk, not bud, not inoue. Hate him all you want, but he was super elite
Yeah, no one today is on Floyd or Manny’s level. That’s more a testament to how special they were than it is a knock on the top dogs today. I think Floyd does get credit for Canelo though. People may say he’s green, (and he was given the breadth of his career and how he turned pro early) but I’ve never seen someone say it wasn’t a good win. Floyd has a great resume.
I don't think Canelo was green at all, infact I have previously never heard a fighter with 43 pro fights described as green. Canelo would be the only one in history. Plus watching Canelo back them , when he was throwing combinations, a greater variety of punches, more speed, and volume, he was superior than the 168 version and no different to the 160 version. Floyd beat a prime Canelo imo.
There's only one fighter today close to him right now Many hate his personality and ignore his skills Guy was unbelievably talented I'd bet both my testicle he would beat Crawford if he was around now
He was built up slowly and turned pro at a very young age. If you’re not a hater and apply any nuance to it beyond “he had a lot of fights”, it’s obvious he was green, it was before the fight, and it is in hindsight as he showed his prime was sometime after that bout. He really only fought one world level opponent before this in Austin Trout, before fighting literally the best fighter on the planet at the time…..
He gets loads of credit for it. It's probably his best victory all things considered. He absolutely dominated a unified champion and the man who would go on to become p4p number 1.
Only one world level opponent? Lets see. Baldomir NDou Cintron Mosley Lopez Trout That a solid resume even if some of those were past their prime. Every fighter fights mostly weak opponents when they are coming up , it was not unique to Canelo. The reality is that as 23 Canelo was extremely experienced and far more experienced than most fighters at that age.
It’s not terrible, but also not good and none of them were even serious contenders at the time let alone champions - outside of Austin Trout*. I agree with your later statement, and when I say he was green, I don’t mean green like a new pro with limited amateur experience, I just mean in the grand scheme of his career. And again, I consider it a great win for Floyd anyway.
Yeah it was a good win and nobody is denying Floyd is an ATG he put on a master class but a lot of people who have never had to make weight before don’t realise how compromised you can be having to not only shed an extra couple pounds but then also a rehydration clause. If Floyd is TBE like he claims why not just fight him straight up at 154 and no BS advantages?
Usyk finishes crossword puzzle: Is he now greater than Ali, at least H2H? Fkiyd beats Alvarez: Pre-prime. No KO. Boring.
They do this to every undefeated fighter. There is a feeling among some that everyone has to take their lumps, or something. Floyd has a giant legacy, and there is nothing they can do about that.
