If Mayweather had fought Pacquiao in 2009 not only would he have lost, he would have had to have been airlifted out of the arena in a full body brace. Today it'd still be a shellacking, but one more of the 118-110, 119-109 variety.
Kudos to Maidana for getting after it instead of trying to outbox the #1 p4p boxer in the world. It was always going to be a hard fight.
I know I dont see how these fanboys can ever say he could have beat Leonard or Hearns that 1 boggles the mind.....lol
Lol @ ignorance. Maidana wanted to cheat but got caught, so he got the same gloves but in an other color and this time WITH padding
Pacquiao will not stop for 12 rounds, more accurate, speed and weird angles will stop mayweather. We can see it now why mayweather is avoiding Manny Pacquiao.
He's 37... hell SRR was around the same age when he declined pretty badly as well. Floyd's been fighting a LONG time now.
I don't think he 'adjusted superbly', as you put it, but more that Maidana actually took a breather in the middle rounds or felt gassed a little. I had Maidana winning most, if not all, the early rounds - right up to 5, at least. Are you saying that Floyd took about 6 rounds to finally 'adjust superbly'? Floyd, TBE took 6 rounds to figure Chino out? Chino, if he kept up the pace would have won easily. Floyd was made to look ordinary for the most part tonight.
Pac does throw punches from angles but he doesnt close like Maidana or even use a good jab....Pac fights nothing like him Still i would love to see the fight
True...but Leonard didnt cherry pick 40 yr old 1 dimensional fighters for easy pray either Hearns fought great in his older years.....I guess its because Floyd has never beaten a ATG.....
It has always been the way it was supposed somebody could beat him, but thus far nobody has been able to use that style to do it. Now, and especially at this stage of his career, I think it is time for somebody to try to use speed and moving in and out, which would be an effective plan against his potshotting, and that counter straight right. They are called mythical match ups for a reason, because we will NEVER know. Is mayweather unbeatable? No. If he were up against a round robin series of handpicked 'best pressure fighters' then he would undoubtedly lose at least once, at some point., not just because of their style but also their skill and abilities... But comments like that are used to detract Mayweather, why? Maybe if he was fighting in the past he wouldn't be as dominant as he has been, but he is almost perfectly suited to 21st century modern prize fighting, would the greats of the past be necessarily so?
