How do you rate Duran's victory over Ernesto Marcel?

Have you never seen this happen time and time again? Why do you think De La Hoya and Cotto timed him with the jab and drove him to the ropes so often? Why do you think Cotto, Judah, and even Mitchell can catch him with a lead southpaw straight left & 1-2? Why do you think Jesus Chavez and Augustus fought him on the ropes for most of the fight? Floyd's very skilled on the inside, but 140 and above, he plants his feet to punch and uses his range & control of distance to get his counters off, often neglecting lateral movement to the point of detriment. Rarely does he circle like, say, Cotto against Margarito 2 or Sugar Ray Leonard against Lalonde. He's not a stick-and-move lateral fighter.

Duran fans confusing skill with talent. Why bring up his competition? Whats that got to so with skill?

Jake Lamotta beat Sugar Ray Robinson, is he more skilled then Kid Gavilan?

Mayweather can be more skilled with Duran fighting the higher caliber of opponents. One has nothing to do with the other.

In technical terms explain how Duran was more accurate, had better timing, a better jab, a better hook, better footwork ect.

Bringing up "well Duran was competitive against Hagler so hes more skilled then Floyd" isnt a solid argument.

Agree to disagree then on Duran and Mayweather.

...just a suggestion, though. Give Hagler's fights against Sibson and Hamsho a watch. Then ask yourself how Mayweather at junior middleweight who got hit with a number of De La Hoya and Cotto jabs and was cornered by Cotto every now and then would deal with that type of versatile fighting animal. Saying Mayweather would beat Marvin Hagler is just as ridiculous to me as saying Miguel Cotto would beat Sumbu Kalambay.

Haha all the Duran nuthuggers wafting in the ambience of his overrated mystique. Only won one big fight against Ray Leonard when Leonard fought his fight and still almost lost that. Quit like a chump in the rematch, outboxed by Benitez and Laing, beaten by Hagler, knocked stiff by Hearns.

Look at his big wins. Total joke stoppage against Marcel, nailed Buchanan in the balls for the title, thumbed an inexperienced Moore, went life and death with Iran Barkeley in a fight he lost. Are we supposed to give him credit for taking 15 rounds to stop Leonicio Ortiz who was just a southpaw with an awesome beard? Or is it his awesome destruction of Alvaro Rojas who had a 4-4 record?

He never gave Buchanan a rematch and struggled with DeJesus who was dominated by Antonio Cervantes, who Duran openly and admittedly ducked. And that's an ATG?

You're obviously one of those fans who think Duran, Hearns, Leonard and Hagler are some kind of Demi-Gods so there's No use discussing this with you, he managed to win one fight against who was considered the best in his era, whoopty doo...

You're seeing what you want to see. I've mentioned plenty of areas Duran in which Duran is superior to Mayweather. In large part, I've completely ignored Hearns, Leonard, and Hagler and stuck to his lightweight reign and his best performances north of 135.

Oh, and watch repeatedly through Duran's career when he'd counter jabs with right hands - even executing "pull counters" against Ray Leonard. His timing was fantastic. He was great at catching guys between their shots, finding openings, and creating openings. There was a method to what seemed to be madness.

Haha you mean the split decision fight he won. I guess one judge thought like I did. But i'm sure it was total domination, even if it was a fight of the year. But you didn't deny the rest of the post.

LMAO. someone gets hit by a jab = walk in str8 lines. Drove him to the ropes. Floyd is expectional fighting on the inside. You know what inside fighting is?
