Both Frazier and Marciano were pure swarmer/sluggers. Dempsey like Louiswere boxer punchers. As per Tunney "Dempsey was no crude slugger but instead a fusion of boxer and puncher". So in this respect YES Dempsey had qualities of A boxer puncher as opposed to a strictly Marciano type slugger. As another reference point Ray Arcel felt Duran was "the closest thing to Dempsey" he ever saw. Duran exhibited great boxer puncher type skills.

V, just for the hell of it. Google the 2nd Tunney/ Dempsey fight in 1927. In the 7th round the creaky Dempsey catches up to Tunney and lands the most beautifully fast and accurate 7 punch combination right on the button of Tunney that drops Tunney.
Remember this was a 32 year old rusty Dempsey who just came off a 3 year self imposed layoff.... And try to imagine how formidable Jack Dempsey must have been when he almost killed a Fred Fulton in less than a minute, and truly kod a 260 pound Willard in a round.? Not for nothing was Jack Dempsey the greatest ring attraction in boxing annals...cheers V...

Not sure why anyone would classify Pacquiao a swarmer or Mayweather a boxer-puncher. Pacquiao is a boxer-puncher and Mayweather is a boxer-mover. Swarmers or pressure fighters fight only going forward and stalk down their opponents.

Manny jumped in and out and side to side to disrupt his opponents rhythms. As he got more sophisticated he added in feints and counter punches. He really only applies pressure once he has an opponent opened up, otherwise he's always moving. This style is great for disrupting the timing of pressure fighters, but horrible against counter punchers or movers. The in and out movement doesn't work against someone who is backing up and eventually gets timed by a counter-puncher.

Mayweather has rarely walked forward or even even jump in and out. He doesn't really attack and is quite content with staying on the outside, circling, chilling on the ropes, clinching, and landed a pot shot here and there. This style is great for timing boxer punchers, and sluggers who don't know how to cut off the ring. It is also very effective against counter punchers that wait for their opponents to walk in. The only weakness is really against swarmers who know how to cut off the ring, which is also a difficult to employ against an adept mover.

Mayweather's boxing and moving were in full effect. Pacquiao on the other hand appeared to forgo his regular style of in and out knowing that he would probably get timed and chewed up by Mayweather. It seemed like he was trying to control the center of the ring, focused on defense and trying to time Mayweather to land his own counters. He looked like he was trying to apply intelligent pressure and wait for Mayweather's jabs and lead rights in order to slip and counter. Pac landed way more counters I've ever seen landed on Mayweather, however I think he and his team expected his power punches to have much more effect on Mayweather and that they would land with more consistency. In a duel against counter punchers longer reach and speed are crucial. Mayweather had the longer reach kept Pac on the outside and his quick hand speed make it hard to counter. Pac would have the right idea and would miss some of his counters as Mayweather circled away.
