Which ones did he deserve to win? The draw with Quarry. The Chuvalo fight was very controversial. The Maxim fight. His SD with Tommy Jackson had some weird friggin' scores... Harry Kessler 5-6 | judge: Harold Barnes 8-4 | judge: Bert Grant 7-5 ~ A SD with Dick Wagner. Thoughts?
Ellis did not win - Floyd Lost!! I have Floyd beating Chuvalo 7-5 The Quarry fight could have been a win, but with the Californian scoring system in effect, a draw seems okay. We do not have the full fights of the Wagner, Jackson and Maxim bouts, so not possible to say for sure, but from what I have seen, Floyd could be the winner in all three. Woller
If he had showed up to consistently fight instead of taking his typical Floyd periods of inactivity in many rounds he could have went 3-0 in the Quarry-Quarry-Ellis trifecta...
I think he lost, barely to Maxim, but deserved the two fights with Quarry, the one against Ellis, Chuvalo and Bonavena.
I thought Patterson won Ellis, Chuvalo, Quarry I, Jackson I(easily..... floyd broke his hand in round 4, thats why it was so close) I thought Patterson lost Quarry II
Please name just one person who felt that Floyd did not deserve the win against Bonavena. Floyd won easily! To say that Floyd lost (or won) against Maxim, one must have seen the whole fight! Have you?? Woller
If anyone is interested (probably not ) Floyd is my all-time fav. In Feb of 72, I went to a party where I met my late friend Mike (big boxing fan) for the first time (hippy-dippy days) All of us self-medicated, music, cards, etc, and a goodly bunch of boxing fans in the bunch surprisingly. The Oscar-Floyd scrap was taking place at the Garden that night and we all knew it. I was a little afraid but thought Floyd had it in him to take the UD. At 11:00 we crowded around the TV for the late night sports show. Mike thought Patterson was well past it but even before the sports began our local announcer said: "how about MSG tonight, Floyd Patterson a UD over Oscar Bonavena, details to come" My hero continued on for one last Ali scrap...we talked about it for years to come! Ah, the good ol' days!
