Greetings. Just thinking about this. Marciano against Patterson has been done to death, because it could have happened. Most people think the Rock would have won, but I think all agree that because of Floyd's speed and power, it would have been a fun fight. Less analyzed is the purely hypothetical Louis-Patterson match up, and I was thinking of this the other day. Louis is undoubtedly one of the two best ever, but this would be a surprisingly good match because Joe was a notoriously slow starter, and his chin could be cracked. I could see Floyd hitting him with the kangaroo hook in the first, putting him down, and Louis getting up and unleashing hell. Floyd's beard let him down, and he really wasn't in the class of those two, but he was good enough so that he would have given either one of their toughest nights. Thoughts?
Im a huge Marciano fan but at their respective stages in their careers Marciano May have lost a decision. He was already showing signs of slowing and wasn’t taking his training as seriously come the time of the cockel fight. He may not have been motivated two years after Archie when Floyd emerged as a contender. He lost his edge and got comfortable like many champs but I guess he was smart enough to walk away. Prime for prime Rock and Joe by TKO but Floyd def makes them remember him.
If Rocky hadn't retired, and fought Patterson, I agree he'd have won, but he trained for a comeback and stayed retired for a reason, had he somehow been convinced to continue, I'm guessing it wouldn't have ended well.
If it had being Floyd challenging Rocky ,Patterson may have dropped him early. If Walcott and Archie' could don't see why Floyd with fast hands couldn't do the same .But it's keeping him down that's the problem. I can see Marciano eventually bulling his way through and stopping Floyd .Wouldn't have been a good fight for Floyd at that point ,a severe ko loss may have wrecked his confidence for a long while.
