Floyd Patterson doesn't seem to get the nod of "ATG" status but that is down to the era he fought and him deciding to fight in the HW division. He was unfortunate to have been in the HW division sooner and ended up having to face a beast against a legit 200+ pound Sonny Liston. And before that, at HW, he did have trouble and was in some tough fights against Ingemar Johansson who is about the size of a modern CW. Patterson won Gold as a MW and went on to increase his weight to fight as a HW. But even then, by today's standards, he would be a LH given how fighters take weight off for the scales and then put it back on by fight-time with that 36hr+ or so time period. Although, he could have just not purposely bulked up to get that high and maybe continued on at 160-175, 175 for sure. Today, if he were fighting, he could range from MW to CW. Although I do wonder considering how fighters take weight off for the scales and then put it back on, if he would be fine. I'm not positive what his actual weight was back then on fight-night...or was it just down to whatever was listed was his actual fighting-weight??? Could you imagine him in this tournament at SMW? I think he beats them all at SMW, but that's just my opinion. I think he beats Dawson at LH as well. Patterson in the 50's would have been light heavy champ. His problem would have always been from 1960 on that the big hitters Ingo, Williams, and Liston would have blocked his path....with Ali waiting in 1964.
Williams was two classes behind Patterson. Glorified clubfighter. :bart Patterson would pick up a belt at mw and smw, perhaps stay there for a while given that there are a few good opponents and lucrative bouts, if he does he has a very good chance of unifying. He´d unify lhw for sure and has more than a good chance to do the same at cw. If he does that, unifying 2 ******* and one real division and winning a belt at another real division, he´d probably ranked the best of this time, at least alongside, perhaps above Pac.
