Floyd Patterson of 1958 gives Bob Foster of 1969 a title shot. The Floyd Patterson that had recently dispatched Roy Cut N Shoot Harris gives the 1969 version of Light Heavyweight Champion Bob Foster a shot at the World Heavyweight Title. Who wins it and why?

I think Bob could knock Floyd out. Floyd would only outweigh a well-conditioned Foster by only about 7-12 pounds, which is not too much. Floyd was very vulnerable and could be easy to set up. Look out Johansson. Quarry timed him as well and floored him. And Foster was a far better one-punch KO artist than either of them. Maybe not Johansson, but Foster was no one trick pony like Johansson. The more I think about it, Foster is also much, much taller, and with longer arms than Floyd. He might keep him really far back and give him a jabbing lesson, which is possible since Foster had a very good jab.

Do you see Ingemar licking his chops?, he just flattened Eddie Machen on Sept 14 1958 in round 1 in Sweden.

Just the same, if Floyd is having a really good night, he could outbox and outmanuever Foster. In a slugging contest though, I would advise Floyd stay out of that. Foster weighs less, but hits far harder P4P.

Who knows, this might be one of those kinds of finds where Floyd is floored time and time again and comes back to KO Foster. lol

Honestly can't make my mind up here.

Picking Patterson, for me is like saying either I truly believe Patterson is more skilled than Foster, or I think Patterson is too big for Foster.

Now the 2nd one is clearly not true. So do I believe Patterson is better than Bob?

I mean the other LHW sized guys who have had success at HW: Langford, Charles, Moore, Tunney, Spinks. I don't hesitate picking them above Foster.

But Patterson, for some reason never seems to be in that company for me.

Probably means I under rate him.

I'm gonna give this a go.

    Patterson by ko.

Floyd fought some Gangly type fighters, Eddie Machen does come to mind, he beat Eddie on July 5 1964 in Sweden, on points, almost took Machen out, but spared him because of his mental health conditions. Floyd Patterson is too fast and skilled to lose to Bob Foster, who was a great Light heavyweight champion but could not beat a notable heavyweight at all. Floyd with his peek a boo style avoids Bob's left hook, then peppers him with quick left jabs, and fast counters, backing him up. It becomes a boxing clinic and Floyd is the teacher. Floyd by stoppage in round 9. In 1958, Cus D Amato was with Floyd Patterson, they would together map out a very sound game plan.

One good way to determine the outcome is to see who the biggest light heavyweight is that Foster ever beat. I'm looking now.

So far I haven't found a light heavyweight that Bob defeated in the 180s, just 170s. Of course, Bob never beat any good heavyweights, accept Willie Besmanoff, who was only a decent contender. The other end of the spectrum would be to see who are the lightest guys to beat Floyd, or at least give him a close go.

Quarry is the lightest to ever beat Floyd in his prime, weighing 196, but only outweighing Floyd by one pound.
