You still have a chin if you get up and Patterson did alot of getting up. He had a heart the size of a whale.

    Underrated power

I have seen him do things to his opponents, that I haven't even see Tyson do. Yet I can say the same for Mike :)

OWNED? WHO?? No one put him down to stay. He was getting up against Liston. Ingo? (what if Ingo had put him down 30 seconds from the bell in the first fight?) Most of his knockdowns were off balance/flash shots and , if they weren't, he rose and kicked butt (Quarry 1)
IMO Floyd's chin is vastly underrated.
Many say he couldn't compete against the 70's heavies....
Does anyone think that Norton, Lyle, Shavers, etc...would just walk right thru him???

Hi chin was underrated but he was really splattered by Liston and Ingo. Although these were to monster hitters the fact that that he was knocked out early three times is this sign of an average chin.

That´s the point. His chin is average but not glass as people like tommygun711 claim it to be.

  10. i would not say glass, but i would say weak chin. And it is a fact. I think that it was his only fault

  12. YOU CAN TALK THE **** THAT YOU WANT, THE FACTS ARE FACTS AND PATTERSON NEVER HAD GOOD CHIN. THE VIDEOES AND THE EXPERTS HAVE MORE CREDIBILITY THAN THE WORDS OF A FANBOY:deal

Yeah, right. Go away troll. What is it with this guy, Foreman hook and those people? Where are they coming from? Can´t there be some kind of test to post here? You know some common sense and basic knowledge.

Another positive point regarding Patterson's whiskers.
Of all his knockdowns, virtually ALL of them came in the first three rounds where Floyd was notoriously known for being a tentative, nervous, slow starter.
I can't even remember him suffering ANY mid/late rounds knockdowns.
    >the 4th Quarry 2? Floyd has a embarrassed grin on his face as soon as he went down.
    >the 6th Ali 1? One of his flash/off-balance varieties.
    >the 6th Bonavena? It sure looks like a slip to me.
When he went toe-to-toe with Chuvalo in the 10th, George bombed him with a few huge rights to the head and Floyd went nowhere...

    Patterson had an average chin.

He was thought to be more fragile early, but then encountered some good heavyweight punchers in the second half of his career who couldn't dent him. He took a beating from Ali in their first fight, as well.

I believe the reason his average whiskers betrayed him as if they were lesser were his nerves, and in his early career, particularly against Johanssen and Liston II, mistakes. He fought Liston the completely wrong way, terrified and open, and allowed himself to be hit several times flush by a great puncher, one of which being a crushing left hook when he was on the way down.

Johanssen landed a great right, and Patterson melted. Rare you'll ever find a champion who makes more mistakes when hurt that Patterson did in that fight.

I believe his chin was less of a weakness than some believe, and his general ring demeanor was a larger culprit than is often credited. He was a tense fighter in there, part of what made him so explosive.
