Remembering the Floyd Patterson/Maxim fight I saw in 1954, I ask who would win at equal weights 168, in their best days, Floyd Patterson or Roy Jones ?
    Who is your pick ?

I'd be mighty interested in hearing your prediction to this fight, considering your first-hand knowledge.

patterson was only 19 in the maxim fight. at 168 jones was at the height of his powers. jones by a wide decision. i'm interested in hearing burt's prediction as well.

Roy beats up a weight drained Floyd, because Floyd's best day is when he weighed 190 against Johansson II

Jones wins as a pro cuz pro Patty was too green that low, where as Jones was primed..... JONES! At 175, around very early '56, Patty smacks him silly in a tactical boxing match..... PATTY!

Patterson wasn't weight drained, he ate his way upto 190

Anyway a 19yo Patterson was a massive talent and would beat many at 168, he even deserved to beat Maxim. But this is Roy Jones the best ever at this weight in his prime against a 19yo pre prime fighter and Patterson would probably get knocked out

This is the scenario that I go along with. Taking Floyd at 190,and Jones the weight he was against John Ruiz,I'd pick Patterson.

People would stop talking about Patterson being fast-handed after this bout, 'coz he'd look slow as a snail.

Patterson.decision or possible late ko w/ left hook.

I think his workrate and 3 minutes per round of activity are a big problem for Jones the second half of the fight. He'll drain his tank and make Jones uncomfortable very early.

Roy just loves those guys that have a slow pace and get shellshocked and stop doing everything. He eats those guys up. He stays in that comfy zone and does everything he wants to when he wants to. Patterson is the polar opposite and even if he gets knocked down, goes right back to his pressuring at all times style. He went down a lot but usually got up and went right back to what he was doing. Crucial against this opponent. I think Jones has to throw 80 punches a round and he was not that busy of a guy. He prefers the 35 punches per round with lots of breathers. But the fight is a busy busy fight and the ability to absorb gets bigger and tougher with each round.

I love Patterson. But even at 19 168 wouldn´t have been a good weight for him. He´d be weight-drained there. And at 19 he´d be too inexperienced to deal with Jones. I think Jones decisions him. I´d pick Patterson to knock Jones out at any fight above 175 but under it we just don´t know how good Floyd would have been. Too much speculation.

Unnaturally low weight even for Floyd..the upper range of lightheavy would be as low as he could get without being severely weakened....but at a plausible catchweight for the two, Floyd catches Roy's chin at some point or another and ko's him...probably in 6 or 7.

He is too young , too green and Jones UDs or even stops him.
