Floyd Patterson/Roy Jones@168,who U got ?

Floyd was 165 as an amateur , so 168 was certainly doable for him.
Now I see that for the first 3 years of his professional career he was 168 or under , most probably without the dehydration & rehydration as there was no such weight limit back then. Starting from 1956 , 168 was probably not doable anymore for him.
@ 175 I think Floyd would have beaten Roid.
Floyd was actually a bigger man and one of quality , which is a combination Roid rarely dealt well with. And a better quality than Tarver's , which is something Roid never dealt with.

 

How about Jones at 175 and Floyd at 180?

Just heard some more from the inimitable Jake LaMotta.

He said he'd have taken out the HW champ, Patterson. He cited: no chin, light punches, and said he didn't have fast hands. [I know many dispute that.]

Jake also said that if Joe Louis stood toe to toe with him and wasn't prepared to back up, he'd be in trouble. Stated or implied he would have beat Louis or been competitive. But he said that he as a LHW vs Marciano as a HW, would have been a toe to toe war. Didn't quite say he would win.

Bear in mind he is talking here as a LHW not at MW. Said his punches were much harder when he wasn't weight drained. As a LHW, Jake might have done well vs Floyd P.

I think I would go with prime Roy against Patterson at SMW or LHW.

 

Floyd eventually lands that same kind of almost invisible right hand that decked Quarry in '66, only it ko's Jones...just one punch would be all it would take.
