How do you see this fight playing out? Interestingly, this matchup doesn't seem to have been discussed yet.

Povetkin would land that uppercut, and the much smaller Patterson, who didn’t have the best chin, surely wouldn’t be able to take it.

Maybe he can get in and out for a while and last longer, but Povetkin was also great at closing off the ring and closing the distance quick.

I think Povetkin was too big and durable to get stopped by Floyd and I don’t know if Floyd could hang with him for the long haul to win a decision.

Povetkin is like Norton in that he's a very hard puncher-but a shade off of being characterized as a real puncher. i don't think he stops Floyd, frankly. And I'm one of the people who probably enjoyed Povetkin more than most of the board during his prime. Patterson is going to be fighting with Povetkin in a way where both men will want a similar range but I think one is more explosive, far faster and an even better combination puncher and skilled mover of both feet and upper body-Floyd. He's just smaller and less durable. Minus a knockout, I see it as looking a lot like Takam/Povetkin, except with Povetkin taking the worst of the exchanges on points, but Patterson getting shaken up more dramatically-looking with single punches here and there, despite getting the better of far more exchanges and taking more points. Patterson by close decision...as he'll get knocked down a few times. Because. But he won't be finished or pinned in place by sustained enough attack to go away.

Povetkin is too one dimensional for Floyd. He has one mode and that’s to fight at midrange. He never really displayed good infighting and he wasn’t that good on the outside either. Marco huck consistently outjabbed him in their fight and Eddie chambers was essentially landing his at will until he stopped throwing it. Floyd can fight both inside and outside and hold his own at midrange. I don’t think povetkin hits much if at all harder than someone like Oscar bonavena or Jerry quarry, and Patterson went the distance with both, so chin shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Floyd would just be too fast and skilled in general and he had the power to hurt Alexander. I pick him via late round TKO.

You underestimate Floyd’s ability to recover from big shots. He took hits from guys like Ingemar Johanasson, Jerry quarry, George chuvalo, and Oscar bonavena, and still managed to continue fighting.

Marco huck badly hurt Povetkin multiple times in their bouts. I think Patterson hit just as hard if not harder and was a significantly more skilled and dangerous puncher.

If we’re going to pull single instances out of the hat to make our case then as a defending world champion Floyd was dropped by a debuting Pete Rademacher. Think I’ll stick with Pov to win this.

Povetkin wasn't stopped by Klinchimir, so he wouldn't be stopped by Patterson either. Povetkin wins here. If I wonder how he gets; points or KO - wins by knockout.

He was dropped once and immediately went back up to knock him out in dominant fashion. He wasn’t in serious trouble of getting knocked out by him.

Only because they were more interested in clinching than punching each other.

    Pedvetkin would Liston him.

Natural Povetkin...I don't know. I might not like him against the later, more rugged Patterson who fought Quarry.

Hey, man. You did not show up to the La casa stregata (1982) watch party. Are you okay?
