Expectation: Not too high. I expect a decent pace from Patterson, but I expect him to be green and sloppy and probably not have adopted his famous fighting stance yet. I know little about Wagner. But being this is not a very high profile match, expectation does not run high. Mediocre I'm guessing is how the fight will be.

    Description:
    1. Patterson jumped in with left hooks and clinching. He moved around a lot, but did not appear to me to fight in the familiar peek-a-boo style, though he does have the bounciness and high guard. Patterson.
    2. A right staggered Wagner in an early exchange. Strangely enough, Wagner was the main pressure fighter, not Patterson. Patterson.
    3. Patterson mandhandled Wagner with ease. He did a fine job of blocking Wagner's punches with his arms and elbows, as the radio announcer observed. Wagner put on a decent rally near the end. Patterson.
    4. Patterson began with fair 1-2's. Wagner dug significant body shots into Floyd. That may have been the reason for Floyd getting into some hot water as the round waned. Wagner punched himself out though, and Patterson came back to get Wagner with a few big shots, best of was a left hook that stunned Wagner. Wagner.
    5. A definite low blow by Patterson, but went unnoticed. Patterson.
    6. Wagner tried to take the fight back inside, but Patterson kept pushing him away. Even.
    7. The most exchanging done of any other round. Not that it's a good round. Patterson.
    8. Both put up their best efforts. Patterson was elusive for Wagner's punches. Patterson.

    Final score: 6-1-1 for Patterson.

    Assessment:
Patterson-Very green and unpolished. At this point his talent does not seem to be there.
Wagner-A tough, relentless opponent, but perhaps too unskilled and not relentless enough to ever make it big. He looked like a good fighter for facing young, early prospects as in this case.

Verdict: As expected, rather mediocre. Not a single good round in the fight. Skip 'er.

Where is this fight posted? I couldn't find it on you tube.

Thanks for your evaluation. I think I have seen Wagner against someone, not Patterson. He seems, and looked on film if I recall, to be merely a stepping stone journeyman type. That appears to be your take.

*I am leaving on a family vacation all during October, so I might miss your posts, but will try to keep up. I won't have time to do much posting myself. Perhaps I will be able to drop in a quick comment now and then. I will back in November.
