How does Floyd perform against the greats of the late 19th/early 20th century? Sullivan, Corbett, Jeffries, Fitz, Choynski, Johnson, Sharkey, Langford. Summaries on any or even all appreciated.
Prety well. I am not going to put him in a time machine but asume he was brought along in that era with prety much the style he had in his own day modified for the rule set. Sullivan would probably knock him into next week and so would Jeffries. His speed and style physical gifts would make him prety well suited to taking on guys like Corbett, Fitzsimmons Choynski and Maher though as in his own era the punchers would somtimes catch him clean and close the deal while somtimes they wouldnt. I would give him an fair shot at upseting Johnson incidentaly.
Tommy Burns had good hand speed, a longer reach than Johnson and probably hit as hard as Patterson.Floyds defensive mo isnt to great either , being floored by among others Rademacher ,and Harris.
I think Floyd was way too skilled for Sullivan. Patterson knocks the Boston Strongboy out late in the fight. Corbett and Fitz would both give him a good fight but Floyd beats them both. He outboxes the lumbering Jeff but like he did Chuvalo and Bonavena. Johnson I believe is the only one out of these guys that definitely would beat Patterson. Langford and Patterson is a pick em' fight IMO. Choynski and Sharkey were very tough guys but would be outclassed by a larger and superior athlete in Floyd. Only Johnson beats him for sure. Langford is a tossup.
Patterson was a borderline middleweight at times. Are Choynski and Sharkey really all that much smaller?
