I'd have it the other way round. Ezz peaked at lhw but Floyd could only make LHW when he was quite green. LHW Floyd would not be ready for arguably the division's all time best. Floyd went on to go the distance with some tough heavies eg Bonavena, Quarry and hung tough for 12 one sided rounds against an angry, near peak Ali. If those fellows couldn't get Floyd out of there, I don't see Ezz doing it especially as his HW career came after the ring death he was involved in. That took a fair bit of spite out of him. This is actually a battle of mu two favourite fighters, btw, along with Michael Spinks. Light heavies who become heavyweight champs have clearly got my number but, honestly, are there three nicer guys in the sport?
Patterson by a stoppage at heavyweight. Too much speed along with good power. At lightheavy Charles was in his prime and also prime division. I would pick him to win a decision over Floyd.
Charles by TKO Floyd sure as hell gets up but I think he gets stopped in the later rounds. Would be an interesting fight though...like if you shrunk Holyfield and Tyson
No way patterson stops Ezzard. Cincinnati by KO in9. Easily. Patterson is soo overrated on these boards. It's like people feel sorry for him so they make him more than he was. Charles WAS great and would crush. floyd in 9. Patterson should bring his disguises and makeup artists w him.
I picked Charles on points but that’s not with any conviction. Ezzard Charles anywhere from 1945-1950 vs Floyd Patterson anywhere from 1956-1962 would be an excellent match.
I always liked the idea of this fight. I'd just like to see how Ezzard would handle him. I don't think it's a fight Floyd would win he was too bullish for his fragility.
